Japandroids (JPNDRDS) is a two piece band from Vancouver, BC. This 'band' started in 2006 as a creative outlet for the post-teenage angst of Brian King and David Prowse. Originally intending to be a trio, the boys decided to forgo the logistical nightmare of having a 'lead singer' and do it themselves. As a consequence, Japandroids are 1 guitar, 1 set of drums, and 2 ... Read more in Amazon's Japandroids Store

While Post-Nothing is a better place to start with Japandroids, No Singles is a great collection for fans of the band who are wanting to dig further into their music. If you don't have Post-Nothing, start there and then pick this one up. If you have Post-Nothing and like it, then getting this is a no-brainer.

No Singles collects their first two out-of-print EPs, All Lies & Lullaby Death Jams, into one package. I prefer the Lullaby side to the All Lies side but both are a good additions to their growing discography. The songs are loud and fast, much like Post-Nothing's tracks but don't show the maturity and clarity of purpose of Post-Nothing. You can tell that the guys are enthusiastic and learning "their" sound: just two guys bashing out great post-punk rock & roll as loud as they can with the most earnest enthusiasm they can muster. My favorite tracks are "Lucifer's Symphony" and "Sexual Aerosol." There's even a cover of Mclusky's "To Hell with Good Intentions," which is great to hear them play live, but it doesn't translate well on record (the vocals are too over the top and kill the song). The vinyl edition of this album is particularly great because it includes a large 12"-sized book with many great photos and lyrics. I believe it's also available in two different colors: black and white.

Ultimately, none of the music on this release is as solid as the songs from Post-Nothing but it shows where the genesis for those songs came from. I would really give this a 3 1/2 stars if I could. This is a great band to crank at loud levels and rock out to. Check out their current singles series for some other great songs.

If you have been introduced to the Japandroids you have probably listened to Post-Nothing and Celebration Rock. This is the next logical step in the band's discography. Personally, I believe the songs on this compilation are even more raw than their two albums. This is a must for anyone begging for won't be dissapointed

Doesn't have the 'every track could be a single' appeal of Celebration Rock, and isn't as rich as their other album, but I'm hard pressed to find anything other than Gaslight Anthem's new album that is as fun to listen to. Worth the money, for sure.
