Editorial Reviews

No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith is a definitive metal document, with Motörhead's Lemmy, Fast Eddie, and Philthy Animal Taylor captured in their full-on chaotic glory across Britain's sweat pits in 1981. From the opening body rush of "Ace of Spades," with Lemmy's gravel-gargling voice raw and blasted all to hell, to Fast Eddie sending out mercurial shards of guitar, to the closing "Bomber" and "Motörhead," this is a live album second to none. Lemmy would break all four bass strings on the evening's opening chord; fans would need to be restrained from carving grooves into the floor with their heads. Metal should be a vicarious thrill, a sudden rush of blood and noise, and No Sleep more than fills those roles. For Motörhead fans with serious cranium damage, this 20-year anniversary edition also contains a bonus CD of outtakes from the same tour, including second versions of (an even heavier) "No Class" and Lemmy's ode to all things gross, beer-bellied, and sweaty, "(We Are) the Road Crew." Absolutely bloody essential. --Everett True

Product Description

2008 digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of the British Rock band's classic live set, originally released in 1981. Motorhead's No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith captured the band at its earth-shattering, genre-forming peak. Skyrocketing to #1 when it was originally released, No Sleep is one of the best live albums of all time, capturing the live high-octane impact of the legendary power trio line-up (Lemmy, 'Fast' Eddie, and Philthy 'Animal' Taylor). No Sleep... was already an astounding live album to begin with, but this expanded double disc version adds more tracks, more power and more Lemmy for the ultimate Motorhead live experience! 29 tracks. Sanctuary. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars They screwed up this album!!!, September 29, 2003
As a Motorhead fan, I have to say I was really disappointed with how they've adapted the LP for this CD. The original LP was from a single live show, so the entire LP flowed like a live show -- a song, applause in the middle, then another song. You almost felt like you were there.

To adapt this for the CD, they've created breaks in between the songs to correspond to the different CD tracks, and it sounds totally artificial. It really destroys what had been an amazing live peformance.

If you can't find the LP (or don't have an LP player) I guess you should settle for this version (the music still rocks!). But if you're a Motorhead purist like me, prepare to be a little disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Do You Know What Time It Is?", May 1, 2003
By John (Ridott, IL.) - See all my reviews
When ya go see Motorhead Lemmy has just one question for ya when he walks on stage: "Do you know what time it is?"...
A classic from start to finish. From the opening bass chords on "Ace Of Spades" to the all out paint peeling of "Bomber" this is what a live album SHOULD be. A live album is NO GOOD unless it makes you want to be there. This one does. A MUST HAVE for ANY Metal fan!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any true motörhead fan, March 28, 2003
This album captures the strength of old classic Motörhead tunes in it live show with all the greats like The Hammer, Stay Clean, No Class, (We Are) The Road Crew, Capricorn, and on and on played by the bands original members this album is a must have for any true Motörhead fan. Not only that but the bands influence on al sorts of Metal and Punk like legends Metallica Megadeth and punk music itself (existing before the sex pistols) why wouldn't you want to buy the live album of one of the greatest bands in history playing hard fast and loud Heavy Rock N' Roll the way it should be.
