Editorial Reviews

Despite millions of album sales, 'N Sync are an obvious No. 2 to label mates the Backstreet Boys. Fittingly, they try harder--too hard, in fact--through most of their second non-Christmas disc, No Strings Attached. The quintet and Strings' dozen-plus producers fill these 47 minutes with bland ballads by Diane Warren and Richard Marx, mildly funky workouts like a cover of Johnny Kemp's "Just Got Paid" and the muddled "Space Cowboy," and gimmicks such as "Digital Get Down" that hardly lend credence to whatever career-longevity claims they might want to lodge. This is a guaranteed smash, but judged on the merits of its weak material and less than compelling vocal performances, No Strings Attached should be long forgotten by the time the Backstreeters' next CD arrives. --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars Woo Woo to *NSYNC June 24, 2000
Format:Audio CD
Applause for this cd. It isn't wonderful but it is thiers. JC wrote 4 of the songs and Justin wrote 1. Yes, some of the words are a little odd, but hey it was their first shot. However, this cd is awsome cause it has THREE extra songs. I'll never stop can be bought on single (and it should be cause the remix's are great) and so can Could it be you (on the bye bye bye single), but it's always better to have everything on one cd. And Only Through Heaven's Eyes can only be bought on the Light It Up Soundtrack, so this cd is a great buy.
1. Bye Bye Bye: wonderful song w/ great beat.
2. Gonna Be Me: another great song.
3. Space Cowboy: good song, words kinda shaky, nice beat and a rap featuring Lisa Left Eye Lopez
4. Just Got Paid: Odd song, fun to listen to.
5. It Makes Me Ill: Fun song to try to learn the words to. Good though.
6. This I Promise You: excellent song. (personal fav.)
7. No Strings Attached: Good song, with great beat.
8. Digital Get Down: ok, the song itself is not very appropriate but it has a great beat (I don't know what JC was thinking of when he wrote this song). However, it's fun to listen to.
9. Bring In the Noise: good song, is repetitive and can get annoying but in all a good song.
10. That's When I'll Stop Loving You: Sweet song. Great words and melody. (another personal fav.).
11. I'll Be Good For You: Justin's song, good. Goes on a little too long, but a sweet song.
12. I Thought She Knew: another good song. Sweet words, everyone in the group (except Lance) has a solo, and the melody is nice too.
13. I'll Never Stop: great song! Can get repetitive after a while but in total a really good song.
14. If Only Through Heaven's Eyes: wonderful song, great melody and sweet.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album of 2000 March 23, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
There is no CD that will beat No Strings Attached. I know it's only March, but I don't think another Cd can be released this year that will top this one. My favorite songs on NSA are "This I promise you" and the title track "NSA." "Just got paid" is a cute remake, and Space Cowboy is wonderful. And it's even better with the Lisa rap 'cause I'm a big fan of hers and TLC. So, congrats on a 5-star album, guys. Hi, Chris.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'NSYNC I love this CD March 23, 2000
Format:Audio CD
I have been an NSYNC fan since the beginning and No Strings' is even better than the 1st CD. The change in style is cool and I would put the new sound against any other band today! I used to be a Rage and Pantera fan but NSYNC has brought a change! BYE,BYE,BYE

5.0 out of 5 stars *NSYNC without strings, for better or worse April 4, 2000
Format:Audio CD
Reviewer: Educated and into *NSYNC from This Planet Finally! Artists who don't take themselves so seriously, who don't consider themselves God's gift to the music industry, and who aren't trying to make some sort of bold angsty statement with a shocker image. Boy-band? Whatever. Critics say that like it's an insult. What's wrong with happy, fun music? When I'm depressed, I want to listen to something that will bring a smile to my face, not something that allows me to wallow in it. The men of *NSYNC are honest about their objectives on this CD: they wanted to make a happy, fun CD with a minimum of ballads (although they are handily included at the end to prove that, yes, they can do more than carry a tune, thank you). This is not rocket science, people. This is not "heavy lyrics 'R' us". Play the CD. Listen. Dance. Then go home.
Some fans are disappointed that *NSYNC has strayed from the sound they debuted with on their first CD. I suppose such fans will have to drop off, then; *NSYNC has made it clear that what we were hearing was not the "real" them and not what they'd like to be remembered for.
Others are upset that certain songs on the album more than allude to 'things sexual'. Oh, dear. Somebody better inform this group of 20-something males that sex is a topic off limits! Perhaps such lyrics will turn off the younger fans, but then again, perhaps *NSYNC's goals are not to cater to the young'uns any longer.
The odd critic will complain that *NSYNC is trying (or trying too hard) to be like their predecessors (one in particular, which shall remain nameless). One would wonder if such critics have actually listened to both groups' music. If nothing else, this was proven with the new CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Australian NSA is the one to get. May 15, 2000
Format:Audio CD
I just received the cd today and listened to the three bonus tracks. I already have the US version of NSA. The bonus tracks should have been on the american one. Two have a really good beat and the third is just beautiful. It even comes with a sparkly JIVE card in it that you can keep or mail in to JIVE to get updates on artists straight from JIVE. In appearance it looks just like the US album. It is the same, just more songs so it is a really good deal. Also, you can tell your friends that yours came all the way from Australia.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected..... April 9, 2000
Format:Audio CD
I have never been a big fan of "boybands." I heard this CD through a friend of mine who is really into *NSYNC. I had heard the self-titled debut awhile back and was not impressed, so going into this album, I was expecting the same letdown. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This album has more of an urban beat to it. It just makes you want to get up and dance, for the most part. The ballads show off the talents of the group. The voices of each memeber blend very well which is very evident in "I Thought She Knew," the acapella track on the album. The cover of Johnny Kemp's "Just Got Paid" is very different, but it is a fun cover. You can tell that the members of the group had a good time recording the album, which always makes albums a little more fun. All in all, I liked this album more than I think I should. It is worth your time to give it a listen at least.

Topic From this Discussion
Fed Up knows nothing about GREAT music!
*NSYNC actually were one of the only so-called boy bands that formed themselves, and although they're nowhere near as good as Rush or the Beatles, they're not that bad. Listen to their song "I Thought She Knew" and you might like them. These pop groups actually are talented, they're... Read more
