4.0 out of 5 stars A good and solid love story
My expectations weren't really high when I started reading this book. Actually, I read some lesbian fiction books in these past months that I didn't even finish. But I have to say that I enjoyed this story. It was an easy, sometimes funny and definitely romantic read. "No strings" is a solid book with a solid story and interesting characters.

So, I'd say,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Returning to old strength
Even though I didn't much care for Gerri Hill's latest novels I picked this up without knowing anything about it.

And to my surprise, it really hit the spot. Pretty standard-fare lesfic romance, but with likeable characters, including the secondary ones, settings and scenery and plot.

A few hours well spent. Even though I doubt it'll be a keeper...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful, Heart-Warming, Romantic Tale, May 10, 2009
This review is from: No Strings (Paperback)
When it comes to Gerri Hill, I don't even bother to read the extract, to find out what the book is about. She's belongs to that elite group of great writers, whose descriptive technique puts you in the middle of the scene, and whose characterizations are so rich that the characters just leap right off the page, forcing you to race through the pages to read their story.

I don't think, I need to say anything about the book. If you want to know what it's about simply read the extract. What I will say is that "No Strings" is a beautiful, heart-warming, romantic tale. It easily became one of my new personal favourites and without a doubt will be a book that I will reread countless times.

5.0 out of 5 stars You're going to love "No Strings", May 12, 2009

This is a great new book from author Gerri Hill! One warning though...don't start reading until you have plenty of time to read the whole thing. Like so many of her previous books, this is one that you won't be able to put down! It's the story of two women that begin a "no strings" attached affair, which of course doesn't work out quite as they had planned. Before they both know it, they're in love and wanting anything but the "no strings" arrangement they had agreed on.

If I had one complaint about this book (and many others of Gerri Hill's), it's that it ends too soon and leaves me wanting more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Slow Romance - Good Traveling Read, February 14, 2010

I enjoyed reading Gerri's "No Strings" novel, and though I wasn't hooked after the first 2 chapters (my gauge for whether it's a can't put down book or not), I did find that the slow pace added to the romance of the story. I liked the character of Reese, and how her stand offish attitude was chipped away by Morgan and the rest of the town. I also liked the secondary characters, but felt there was an opportunity for a second lesbian storyline. Overall, I enjoyed Reese & Morgan's romance, and the dynamics of the fictional small town people. Lastly, since I read the entire book during a long roadtrip, I would recommend this as a good traveling read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like friends with benefits, February 3, 2010

Gerri Hill delivers one of her better crafted stories in No Strings.

Forest Ranger M.Z. Morgan has come to love life in tiny Lake City, Colorado. Sure, everyone knows everything that is going on in her life, but, except for the deep snows in the winter, the people and quiet life there suit her nature completely. Being the only lesbian in town means her social life is limited to when the tourists arrive for the summer, but she finds that easier to deal with than the fact that the entire town is trying to find her a woman to settle down with. When Reese Daniels arrives to be the interim sheriff for a year the rumor mill kicks into high gear. To the local people the fact that there are now two lesbians seems to work out perfectly, even though Morgan and Reese don't exactly hit it off at first. Reese takes her job very seriously and makes it clear that she views this as a period in exile for certain "indiscretions." Her stay will not be extended any longer than necessary. Eventually the women find themselves becoming friends and decide to form a relationship as "friends with benefits." Why not take care of each other's physical needs for a while as long as they both understand there are "no strings attached?" The winter is long and cold and the comfort is nice. Great in fact. Really, really great. The coming spring may melt more than just the snow and there may be strings that they didn't anticipate.

Some of Gerri Hill's novels have been a little flat and routine recently, but No Strings breaks that pattern. Hill demonstrates some of her stronger abilities in crafting a story. The characters of Morgan and Reese are feisty and well developed. The sparring that goes on between them reveals deeper aspects of their personalities instead of the reader just being "told" about them. The atmosphere in the town flows off of the pages and the quirkiness of the people adds to the story. One of the better parts of the book is the struggle Reese goes through trying to adapt her professional standards to a small town and its oddities. The supporting characters are totally believable and help to add depth and humor to the situations. This is a standard romance with girls meeting and coming together, but the characters are a little more engaging than usual. There is an interesting tension that runs between the environment, the people and the situations and makes this more than just a romance.

Gerri Hill's die-hard fans will enjoy this book, but readers who might have found some of her recent books lackluster should find that she has returned to her stronger style. It will certainly provide a few hours of satisfying entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars GERRI HILL Welcome BACK!!!, November 17, 2009
This review is from: No Strings (Paperback)
OK,
The last few Gerri Hill books, I had to force myself to finish.
They weren't interesting.

BUT this book WORKS!

Its funny, sexy, with a story that flows.

Ms Hill is an avid hiker and lover of nature.Take a look at her web site.
The detail in this book of where this little town is and the harsh weather they face was
a picture I could see in my head.

I liked the characters and the interaction with all the nutty town folks.

I don't like giving away the plot - read the book it's a winner.

I didn't give it 5 stars because it fell victim to my ****pet peeve**.
note: My biggest pet peeve is spelling mistakes and grammar errors in a published book I just purchased!
I hope Bella isn't following Bold strokes and chucking the books out the door without proper editing.

Enjoy !

3.0 out of 5 stars good but could have been better, September 28, 2009

As always Gerri's writing style is smooth. The scenes in Colorado were beautiful. However I found the storyline predictable and the characters could have been better developed. One thing I really didn't like was that one of the characters, who is in her early 30s, constantly (and I mean once every page!) says the expression "good grief!" I don't know anyone under the age of 60 who says that, so it didn't ring true of the character. A solid romance but could have been a bit better.

Gerri Hill's newest book, "No Strings," is a winner. Morgan and Reese hook up just for sex...no strings. But of course we can't have that!! And we wouldn't want that. The fun is watching them get tied up in those non-existent strings, and falling in love. A quick read and a fun book with some hot sex scenes. Give it a try. You might hear the zings of your own heartstrings as you dive in to friendship, lust, sex, desire, and love.
