1.0 out of 5 stars SO PREDICTABLE
I read this book because I had thought that it would be good, but instead it turned out that after about 2 chapters I knew exactly what was going to happen and my prediction was true. I would never recommened this book to anyone because it was one of the worst books I've ever read!!!

Dawn Rochelle has been through more then kids here age, chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant, and the death of her best friend. Dawn just turned sixteen, and wants to lead a normal life in high school. She wants people to forget her past, and think about her future. Will Dawn's cancer return to scare off her lifr once more? I really enjoyed reading this book, because it let me see what it would be really like to have cancer. There was something going on, which helped the suspense of the story more interesting. This book was very sad one, and overall was a very meloncoly book. The book was fiction, but you have to wonder about real teenagers, the ones who are dieing everyday because of cancer. Lurlene McDaniel does a great character sketch of Dawn, really opening her up, showing the reader her hopes, and dreams. For example, in the book, Dawn lies in her hospital bed writing in her diary, and wishing she could go to th efootbal game with her friends. One of the saddest parts in the reading book, was when Dawn had to celebrate her birthday in her hospital bedroom. All her friends came, bringing her presents. Asthey left, all they talked about was how fragile Dawn looked, and they finally realized how sick she really was!

4.0 out of 5 stars No Time To Cry, December 14, 2005
A Kid's Review
No Time to Cry, Lurlene Mc Daniel, 0-553-57079

"Deep down, inside the deepest part of her heart, in spite of all the encouraging lab reports from her doctors, she wasn't a hundred percent sure she could call herself a survivor and a winner. With the ongoing tests and medications and the possibility of a relapse, she simply wasn't sure." Dawn Rochelle has leukemia since she was in fifth grade. Her two best friends who also had cancer didn't survive. She keeps on hoping that she will be cured some day and live a "normal" life. Dawn had moved away and now goes to a new school., where no one really knows about her having leukemia. Except Rhonda who's is now her friend. One day when Dawn was walking to school, one of her guy friends Jake followed her in a car. And they haven't seen each other in years. And Jake is somewhat cute, so the popular girl Sharon tries to get his attention. Well sure she gets his attention and goes to the dance with him but does her really like her? Adding on to that, one of Dawn's friends who died has a brother, Bret who worked at cancer camp. Bret who is also a good friend of Dawns wants to visit her for Christmas. OF course Dawn says he could stay for a few days because she likes him but she also likes Jake. So which one will she choose, Jake or Bret? The genre of this book is realistic fiction.

I think this book was a page turner, because it always left you somewhere where she has to make a decision, or where you know something exciting is going to happen. An example of a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter is; "What bad news?" Dawn's heart pounded and a queasy sensation filled her stomach. I would recommend this book because I think people will enjoy it as much as I did. The person who would love this book the most is someone who likes reading about teenage problems. Because the whole book is about a teenage girl who has to make a difficult decisions in her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Time To Cry, May 13, 2005
By
Elise "Ash" (Camden, AR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Time to Cry (Paperback)
No Time To Cry is a wonderful book. It is about a girl named Dawn Rochelle. Dawn is almost 16 and is a sophomore in high school. She attends Hardy High with her best friend Rhonda. Dawn had cancer, leukemia, and she is now trying to leave that behind her and go on with a normal life like an ordinary high school student. As Dawn tries to leave the past behind, she constantly is reminded of her past:chemotherapy,a bone marrow transplant, and the death of her best friend Sandy. Her time at Hardy High is very intresting. Her fifth grade crush,Jake, comes back and she starts to like him again yet she likes Sandy's brother Brent which she met at summer camp. Brent is in college so she doesn't really think that he likes her but he does. Katie,Rob's girlfriend, thinks that Dawn should attend the monthly meetings at the hospital for cancer survivors but Dawn doesn't want to because she just wants to forget about cancer. Dawn is mixed up with all the emotions and doesn't know quit how to handle them. She takes it out on others when they just want to help but to her they are just bringing back memories. This is one of the best books I have ever read. I think that everybody can relate to this book simply because everybody has bad memories or things they just want to forget about. Some may have had cancer or have a family member or close friend that has had cancer and may somehow be able to relate to the things that Dawn is going through. I encourage all girls to read this book. I enjoy all the Dawn Rochelle novels and I think that most girls will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars What's New?, March 16, 2005
Let's see...Dawn is turning sixteen soon, and is going to Hardy High with her friend Rhonda. Dawn is determined to put her memories of cancer behind her, so she isn't thrilled when Kate, the nurse from the hospital where Dawn stayed at when she was in isolation, asks her to be a part of a cancer survivor discussion group at the hospital. And there are still the memories of cancer and lost friendships that continue to haunt her. But the most important descision Dawn has to make is deciding between Brent, and Jake, who recently moved back to Columbus!

This book was very good! So many things happened at once...it was very entertaining. I have to say, I was disappointed with who Dawn ended up with in the end, but that's just me. I love the Dawn Rochelle series! It's so interesting and dramatic, as it mixes the story of a teenage girl with a story about a girl with cancer. I recommend it to all girls!

5.0 out of 5 stars Anything by Lurlene Mcdaniel is great, October 4, 2002

I love reading her books, she's a great author. She really understands how cancer people think and feel. And I should know, comsidering I am a cancer survivor. Dawn Rochelle is like me in a way, I also had a BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant).
(insert from book) >> But no matter how long she stays in remission, Dawn fears that her battle with cancer will always be with her.<< This is very true. I have been in remission for 4 year, but I still remember almost everything and I will always wonder if my Leukemia will come back. Anyway, this is a GREAT book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book lets others know how cancer victoms feel., February 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: No Time to Cry (Paperback)
For a long time, I never knew much about cancer. Well, I guess I knew what it was, but not until after reading this book was I really sure how it felt. Dawn was a very courageous young girl. I doubt I would be able to deal with all she had to if I had cancer. I have not read the other books about Dawn, but I think I will now. A firend recommended that I read this. I felt every ounce of pain Dawn felt throughout the entire book. I like books that are so moving that you could not put them down. That is how this one was for me. Each night while I lay in bed after reading a chapter in the book, I wondered what was next for Dawn in her battle with cancer. If Dawn were here, I would tell that she is certainly the most bravest person I know. I am glad that I now know how cancer victoms feel because many of us don't understand half of what they have to go through. I think everyone should read this book!

I read I Want to Live and Six Months to Live and loved them both. That's why I got No Time to Cry. Dawn is finally in remission, and for the first time in a long time she mgiht be able to live a normal life. The only thing holding her back is her fear of a relapse. I read it a long time ago, but I still remembering how grabbing the book was. I like the way that Lurlene McDanial showed Dawn's by Dawn's resistance to go to the group for cancer suvivors. The book was, in my opinion, wonderful

Then they meet Jillian, a girl who needs a heart and two lungs. Then a doner for a transplant comes. The doctors had to decide if Jillian should get the heart and the lungs or Chelsea(Dawns friend who came to live with her) should get the heart.
