Neale's saga continues from where it left off in Another Time, Another Place (2006). It's 1960s in the Battersea area of London. Sally Jones' husband, Arthur, has just been released from the hospital after having part of his leg amputated. He's insistent about not being mollycoddled, and Sally is worried about hurting him. It seems a simple matter to explain their thoughts and feelings to each other, but as with all human relations, it's not so easy in practice. Because of their inability to communicate, Sally thinks Arthur needs more time and Arthur thinks she's repulsed by his injury. Enter their new upstairs neighbor who has no qualms cozying up to Arthur to further her own ends. Their marriage on the rocks, Sally moves back to Candle Lane with her mother and grandmother, but things are about to change in ways no one expects. Once again Neale comes through with an engrossing story involving characters who seem so real readers will be anxious for more. Maria Hatton
