Review

"When I met Bryan Anderson, I knew I was meeting someone exceptional. He put me immediately at ease. Here he was, this triple amputee, with every reason to be pissed off at the world, meeting someone who never wore the uniform. He pulled himself up on the chair, smiled with that shit-eating grin of his, and told me his astounding story.
Bryan is among that rare breed of hero, that takes in all the worst the world can heap on you, and lets it make him stronger, and makes the rest of us want to be better....he will make you think, and he will make you laugh, and you will be better for having read [his book]."
(-James Gandolfini)

Wow! This book should be a must read for schools across the country. Riveting, I couldn't put it down. Bryan Anderson personifies what it is to be a true American. Honor, courage, love of country. His unwavering faith and optimism that helped him to overcome challenges that most of us can never fathom is truly an inspiration. I am humbled by his strength and his selfless integrity. Thank you for your service and thank you for reminding people what it is to be an American. Read this book now and buy copies to give everyone you know at Thanksgiving and Christmas!

I met Bryan very briefly a few years ago at my daughter's wedding to one of Bryan's close friends. I didn't get an opportunity to meet with him but I had heard the story behind his injuries and determined recovery. Watching him dance, smile, laugh and enjoy himself all through the night was enormously heartwarming. Too many people allow life's little bumps to ruin their day, month, year, life; but here was Bryan exhuberantly lifting everybody's spirits in the reception hall. Last night when I found out that he wrote this book I immediately ordered a preview Kindle edition. I poured through the pages and now ordered a hard copy. God bless you Bryan. You are an inspiration. Lester A.

Excellent story about how one man overcame a serious obstacle in his life: a triple amputation from an IED in Iraq.

I'd recommend this book especially for anyone who has had life deal them bad circumstances or challenges. The author has an incredible attitude about life, overcoming problems and driving forward. He is an amazing man.

There is some coarse language - after all, he was a soldier.

I am reading 'No Turning Back' right now as part of a College course. I just plowed through 103 pages in one sitting. It is a smooth and easy read. I want to immediately note it is not preachy about military work. (We all have our political views and that is not the point of my review...) In fact it seems that he writes almost contradictory feelings about the military, he looks back with fond memories. Pride, and certain education in some chapters but also calls out "Captain America" on the first three pages. The lesson of this book is to live. I personally view it as a self help book. Its not really a NOVEL or Autobiography. Though it has those tones. He also clearly uses ethos, pathos, and, logos in the book which makes it a captivating read. However I will say the constant repeat of I was a Gymnast makes his personal struggles have a disconnect - I personally was a Gymnast myself that disconnect isn't there for me. It is very obvious that some people could lose the momentum that the first few chapters builds up. However besides that, it holds its own. For him that memory of competing kept him going. That was the message he wanted us to get out of that reference. I just thought he used it a bit much, almost as a filler. It was authentic I am glad he didn't change it to something relatable to the masses as a way to make more sales.

Over all this is by far one of the most entertaining books I have read this year. Very excited to pick his brain on the book, when he comes to speak at my school.

One of the most compelling reads ever! What happened to Bryan Anderson, in Iraq, would have put most men down for the count; but he not only rises above his own limitations, he gives the world a step-by-step instruction manual on how each of us can rise above our own.

Turning his life-changing and catastrophic event into a positive outcome - one that not only benefits him, but all those around him at any given moment in time - makes him one of those truly selfless people that we should all try to emulate.

From this one traumatic and life-changing moment, he has gained insight into how we each can benefit from his new-found knowledge and understanding; what it means to not only survive, but to survive well.

His book is not only a 'must' read; but should be brought to the attention of every trauma survivor - so that we each can try to find the truest path to healing.

As a trauma survivor myself, I recognize all those insights (hidden within the pages of Bryan's book) that have taken me decades to find, or reach, within myself. I am proud to say that I am "on the same page" as Bryan Anderson.

I see many short video clips and news articles about injured military veterans, but my daily life is like the vast majority of Americans' -- insulated from the military -- so this winter I chose three books to try to learn more about the challenges of injured veterans.

Bryan Anderson's story wowed me, and it was the only one of the three books I finished (or reviewed). His individual voice shines through the pages and I feel like I know him, although of course we're strangers. He's a person any reader will want to meet after reading this book.

He's also REALLY FUNNY - I laughed several times. He deals hilariously frankly with the issues of any guy in his twenties (girls, beer, dead-end jobs, friends, profanity, sex, Vegas with your Mom). The passage where he describes how he and another amputee drove to a bar together, one steering and one working the gas and brake ... probably one of the top three funniest things I've ever read. I'll admit here and there I skipped a few paragraphs of his advice, in a hurry to get back to his story. Everything he set out to do in this book, he did.
