5.0 out of 5 stars A Funny Thing About Parenthood
I was really surprised that I enjoyed this book as much as I did. Mohr makes parenting funnier than it really is. Or maybe just reading about other parents' misadventures is funnier. Whatever the case, it's a well-written, highly entertaining book. I am charmed by how completely taken and devoted he is to his son. He's probably too obsessive at times, but hey, we all...

3.0 out of 5 stars not as funny as i hoped
I know comedy is subjective, so it is tough to review a "comedy" book. But this book was not what I was hoping for. I always enjoy Jay Mohr, especially when he calls into Opie & Anthony or Ron & Fez, but this book was just a little too sappy for me. True, as a father there were several stories I could relate to, but for the most part, Mohr just goes on and on about how...

He's probably too obsessive at times, but hey, we all screw up as parents at times and since that's his worst quality as a parent, it's really not a liability at all! His takes on kids is a riot and very candid at times. For anyone who has been a parent or is around kids alot, this is a great read. It's no classic, but for just entertaining reading, it's perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warm and funny, June 5, 2010

I ordered this book because I was looking for some humor, and it delivered that and more.

The main focus of the book is Mohr's relationship with his son Jackson. His stories of interacting with his little guy are priceless. I know who Jay Mohr is mostly from Jerry Maguire and his calls to the Jim Rome show, and frankly I did not expect to find in this book such a loving and absolutely devoted husband and father in addition to being a heck of a funny guy. Even if you are not familiar with Jay Mohr, if you are a parent, I think you will enjoy this book. Some of the stories were a little less entertaining than others, which kept me from giving it five stars. But overall, it is warm and funny and silly and touching.

My personal favorite chapter was the one on accompanying his wife to the gynecologist. I had tears running down my face from laughing so hard. If you are not one for blunt humor and select four-letter-words, you might want to pass this one up. Otherwise, this is a definite recommend if you are looking for a feel-good story of love and laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, June 4, 2010
Got this book after Jay mentioned it on Rome. I picked up the book and read it in a local bookstore. Within 10 minutes I had to put it down because I was literally laughing so hard I was causing a scene. Jay's outlook on parenting is refreshingly honest and truthfully hysterical. Thanks, Jay for sharing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A book about parenting that's touching, hilarious and edgy., May 29, 2010

Jay Mohr is not only one of the funniest comedians on the planet, he has also proven to be a terrific writer as well. His first book "Gasping for Airtime" is a funny and informative backstage look at the insane world of Saturday Night Live. "No Wonder My Parents Drank" is one of the warmest and funniest books on parenting ever. He manages to offer a touching take on the subject without ever becoming sappy. Jay's amazing brand of humor and his obvious joy of being a father shines through from the first page to the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put it down!, September 1, 2010
First off let me say that I am not usually a reader!! - I bought this book at a show of Jay's who happened to be playing on my birthday! Jay being a Jersey boy himself was absolutely fab to see on stage and his subject matters were from the book.

I could not put down this book!! It was a hysterical look into parenting from a great father and a wonderful husband, it was also a tear jerker at times and I had a smile on my face the entire time that I read it!

I am not a parent myself but I am a step parent and this book is just amazing! It is a raw true look at things you experience with a child...it explores Jay's experience growing up and how things are so different from then to now.

This is a def must read! You will laugh and you will cry and then you will want to read it all over again.

My fav chapter was where Jay and his son help the needy on Christmas with Father Tim. You are going to love that one!!

This review is from: No Wonder My Parents Drank (Kindle Edition)
This is a difficult book to put down. Jay does a great job of letting the reader into his personal life with inside stories of his family. The book was either very touching, or very funny, from start to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, so true, June 13, 2010

Bought this book after seeing Jay Mohr on a talk show where he talked with the host about the contents. Having had three daughters, the book is right on. Funny (actually hysterical), sad, thoughtful, insightful and much more. Read it and sent it right to my granddaughter and her husband who are having their first baby and my first great grandchild. They are also reading it and enjoying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Read!, June 12, 2010

Very well written, and super funny, Jay Mohr delivers on this one. It makes me want a kid to screw up ... eh hem ... make my own. This book is directed towards those with much love in their heart, and much laughter in their soul. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the book signing after his show at the Irvine Improv, and he's a true delight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just a little issue, November 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There was one thing that kept this purchase from being perfect and that was a noticeable bend in the top corner of the binding. If this had been for me to keep I wouldn't have been annoyed but it was for a gift basket so I was slightly disappointed.
