Down to earth advice,
This review is from: If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! The No-nonsense Guide to an Eating-for-Health Lifestyle (Paperback)
Clean up your diet and you will feel better. Sounds simple but without the guidance of where to begin and what to watch out for one gets trapped in the confusing cycle of supplements, shake mixes and health care providers. Kelly Hayford provides a way out of the trap in "If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! She not only educates her readers as to the pitfalls of processed foods, media influence and role of food allegeries but also outlines several strageties for eliminating health problems with better nutrition.

Good, practical, eye-opening advice,

This review is from: If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! The No-nonsense Guide to an Eating-for-Health Lifestyle (Paperback)
Kelly Hayford has written a very practical book with an approach that is much different than other nutrition books that I've read. The idea of eating only real food is so simple and so common-sense that I'm surprised I haven't seen this advice much more from other nutrition experts. I've spent so much time reading labels for sugars, saturated fats, fiber, etc., but have never really given much thought to the long lists of chemicals on most labels. I just figured that they must be okay if they are allowed in food. Since Kelly's book opened my eyes, I have made major changes to the quality of food that I bring into my house, and I feel a lot better about what my children and I are eating. I do find, however, that if I take this type of advice too seriously, I get way too obsessed about food. I just try to follow nutrition advice like this as well as I can. (I will never get to the Level 4 described in the book, but Level 1 or 2 is better than I was a couple of months ago!) I stongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve his diet.

If you care about your health read this book!,

This review is from: If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! The No-nonsense Guide to an Eating-for-Health Lifestyle (Paperback)
This book is a must read for anyone that cares about what they put into their mouth. "we are what we eat.." or what we don't. Unfortunately in the United States fresh fruits and vegetables have become almost foreign to us. We are not concerned that most of what we buy in the grocery store is loaded with ingredients that are not even pronouncable, much less are they actually food! With the rise of juvenille diabetes, heart disease, and an increase in cancer, not a decrease with all the treatments, this book brings us right back to basics. Start with your diet. Start with the food given to us by nature.Read the boxes. If an ingredient has more than two syllabels it probably isn't food.
Kelly Hayford has a great writing style, and an excellent sense of humour so you won't find this book a dry or boring detailed account of what we should eat. You may actually laugh reading this book. Another excellent bonus is each page contains an excerpt from different books, and medical and scientific studies of astounding facts to the lack of health in this nation.(Make sure to read the margins). I highly recommend this book and am so surprised it is not a bestseller.

This is the only guide you will ever need for how to eat and live in a healthy way. The information was life changing for me and for my patients. Her easy to understand book takes the mystery out of what is and isn't healthy. I found the recipes at the end of the book especially helpful. Kelly shows you how to implement the suggestions into your daily routine immediately. You will not just lose weight, you will gain energy and stamina to enjoy life's passions.

No hype, Just Common Sense and Good Information,

This review is from: If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! The No-nonsense Guide to an Eating-for-Health Lifestyle (Paperback)
Kelly Hayford's book is one of the best I've read on nutrition and truly natural health care. It is not about vitamins (which, by the way, are not foods, but at best only parts of foods) and it does not contain any strange, "new age" advice. Instead, it is filled with practical information that, if you follow carefully, will do wonders for your health, despite any health condition you may have. Or, if you are fortunate enough to have good health, Kelly Hayford's book is more than just an ounce of prevention - it's a whole guide to it. ALL health problems and diseases are tied to our diet, which is what makes this book the foundation of good health and healing.

I think this is one of my favorite books on eating for health. Some read like encyclopedias and some are so self-righteous you feel guilty for shaving your legs or flying in airplanes. This is humorous and informative and full of ideas you can use right away, with lots of the statistics removed to sidebars so it reads smoothly and conversationally. My copy is well-underlined. My husband grabbed it first when it arrived and read it through in just two days. We already had a pretty healthy diet but there's always more to learn, especially the why's behind the decisions you make in the grocery store aisle.

Although I knew advertising ploys play a big part in what society 'eats', I loved the no-nonsense approach of stating the facts. I learned a ton in this book and really loved the quotes and excerpts along the margins of each page. We really need to educate ourselves about what we're ingesting. It's one thing we do have control over! This book was highly informative and refreshing!!

A Must Read, Full Of Healthy Ammunition,

This review is from: If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! The No-nonsense Guide to an Eating-for-Health Lifestyle (Paperback)
Kelly Hayford has written an informative, eye-opening, and highly readable book that gives the reader an armload of reasons to improve their own diet and ample ammunition for gently encouraging their loved ones to do the same.
Kelly makes a great case for avoiding what is artificial or processed and she does it in a thought-you-might-want-to-know way that presents solid data to give you food for thought. (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun.) This is not a diet book! This is a book to help you achieve and maintain the dietary side of fitness and health. Kelly is no stranger to the kind of marginal health that can result from terrible eating habits. Her own story, presented at the beginning of the book, sets the stage for what has become a calling for her: helping ordinary folks create healthier habits around food in a doable and enjoyable way. Well done, Kelly!

Kelly Hayford's book "If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It" puts the whole scope of good nutrition together in one easy to read package. Everyone thought reducing fat intake was the key, then low carbs; well know I understand the key is eating good fats, nutritious foods and avoiding food additives, sweeteners and toxic ingredients in processed foods. I love here down-to-earth style.

Change your life and your health!,

This review is from: If It's Not Food, Don't Eat It! The No-nonsense Guide to an Eating-for-Health Lifestyle (Paperback)
Kelly Hayford's book and teachings are amazing! I've read her book and made a few simple dietary changes as she suggests and can't believe the results. In the first week, I lost 5 pounds while STILL EATING. In 4 weeks, I've lost 10 pounds and feel great. I've almost entirely cut-out sugar, caffiene and alcohol and find that my digestive health, skin quality and energy are dramatically improved.
Kelly gives a simple, no-nonsense view of the Standard American Diet (SAD) and the ill effects of eating non-foods, including the marketing strategies to get us to eat these non-food products. She goes on to lay out a simple owner's manual for the human body and how to nourish it as nature meant --- with whole, fresh, natural foods. I'm buying a copy of this book for the important people in my life who will benefit greatly from Kelly's ideas. Spread the word! |
