4.0 out of 5 stars Noah's Ark: I touched It, July 3, 2000
By
Alan Cline (Columbus, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This is the story of the man who discovered Noah's ark, and smuggled a piece of it out from under the noses of Afghanistan soldiers. Navarra explains the background, how he and his father researched the location, and describes in detail their traveling experiences, with pictures and maps. The author describes some of the history of the search for the ark, and explains why the geography, culture, and politics of the ark have made it difficult for other people to find the location.

Although the book is a documentary, it is far from dry. Navarra makes the real life events easily readable and shows that truth is stranger than fiction.

This book is unique in its content and should be read by any doubting Thomases interested in what really happened.

3.0 out of 5 stars INTERESTING AN AN "ADVENTURE STORY", October 13, 2011
Fernand Navarra was a French industrialist and explorer, who has also written The Noah's Ark expedition.

Even some of his former partners, and sympathetic creationists, are skeptical of his "discoveries" reported in this book; caveat emptor...

Here are some quotations from this book:

"Those remains, I thought, must be what's left of the Ark... The structure was really there, but out of reach, and I lacked the necessary equipment to go down to the site. All I could do was to locate as accurately as possible the site of my discovery and rejoin my companions, promising myself that I would come back again." (Pg. 37)
"But as regards the discovery of the Ark, (the 1952 expedition) was an apparent failure. We brought back neither fragment nor photograph." (Pg. 38)
"...I got a glimpse of dark, tangled forms. Those could only be the remains of the structure I had observed from the ridge of the moraine two years before, and had so often seen in my mind's eye. I promised myself to find them again, and here they were!" (Pg. 58)
"The wood, once out of the water, proved surprisingly heavy. Its density was remarkable after its long stay in the water, and the fibers had not distended as much as one might expect." (Pg. 62)
"Let us not get involved in a debate on what this wood means. One fact is certain: There is wood on this part of Ararat, and it has been there for a long time. Now we are sure we can devise a plan to dig out all that can be found, and we must do it." (Pg. 84)
