AN INTERESTING SUMMARY (circa 1973) OF THE "SEARCH FOR NOAH'S ARK", October 11, 2011
Eryl Cummings (b. 1905) was a realtor in New Mexico. He went up Mount Ararat in Turkey some 16 times (mostly during the 1970s) in search of Noah's Ark, and has advised other would-be "Arkeologists". Violet is his wife; she also wrote the later (1982) book,
Has anybody really seen Noah's Ark?: An affirmative definitive report.
They wrote in the Introduction to this 1973 book, "Does Noah's Ark still exist? Can modern man still believe the ancient Biblical story of the Flood? Is there evidence to support the Scriptural claims?... These, and many other questions relating to this controversial subject, have stirred the imagination and excited the curiosity of many thoughtful persons today. To provide satisfactory answers to as many of these questions as possible is the purpose of this book." (Pg. 9)
Here are some additional quotations from the book:
"...the much-castigated editor who had been responsible (for the pre-Russian Revolution Ark report) offered a public apology and the acknowledgement that he had, indeed ... written up the basic facts 'in story form with the intent of making it more interesting to read.' As if the basic facts in themselves were not sufficiently exciting to warrant a full-fledged investigation into the actual truth of the reports... But what of the possible factual 5%? could further verification be found?" (Pg. 35-36)
"For years it had been increasingly obvious that some power beyond human ken must be at work to counteract or completely destroy every shred of concrete proof for the existence of the Ark..." (Pg. 147)
"Or perhaps, God had dropped a veil of secrecy over the great ship once more, until a still greater spiritual crisis confronted the children of men... it became frustratingly obvious that an opposing power was persistently dogging the trail. Like a murky shadow, a sinister, supernatural influence seemed constantly to hamper or destroy every shred of documented evidence that came to light concerning the Ark." (Pg. 213)

This is a fantastic book that sums up much modern work in the search for Noah's ark and the many eye witness tales from the past from people who claim to have seen it first hand. Violet Cummings wrote about her and her husband's years of research and their visits to the mountains of Ararat.

This review is from: Noah's ark: fable or fact? (Mass Market Paperback)
About 40 years ago, as newbie Christians, we were very interested in the "news" about Noah's Ark and the search for it. This was a really interesting book, and after reading it, we lent it out - as you do - and it was never returned.
Now we have a grandchild who is showing the same interest and wants to look for it... (bless him!)
The advantage with this particular publication is the photos; how to demonstrate the kind of task that the physical terrain of the area demands, is facilitated with the pictures in a way that smaller minds can take on board instantly.
But beware, there are editions printed without the photos; make sure which one you are getting if you order online!
