First off, this is not the type of book I'd normally purchase, but the book's description intrigued me, and the price was right, so it was more of an impulse, "what the heck" purchase.

Well, that put an end to any production this afternoon, as I started reading, reading, reading, & didn't stop until I came to the end. (Now I know what a "Novella" is, & yes, I'll be reading Episode 2 as soon as I get a chance).

If you enjoy a lot of action, a bit of gore, glimpses of compassion & a heck of a good plot, then let Jack, Clarissa, Mandy & "The Old Man" take you on a ride into the seamy side of the big city - a side I can't imagine even exists, but I have no doubt it does.

Well done (Author) L.T. Ryan - you've got a real winner here, and you deserve 5 stars, even if you did mess up my entire afternoon!

This was an okay read...it caught my fancy, was fairly well written and got me involved with the introduction of the characters to a point, but it had some problems as well. I found the protagonist to be a little unbelievable, but it was refreshing that he seemed to have a heart. His female companion, Clarissa, should have been named "Timex" because she can "take a lickin' and keep on tickin'". The bad guys are almost TOO bad, but they fit with this type of story. There needs to be some better editing, but I've read books which contained far more errors than this one. Be advised, this is an actual series and, as such, this book is only a part of the total story; you'll have to buy the complete series to get any closure. If you're up for that commitment, here's your first installment. I, on the other hand, am not so sure it compelled me to buy more; I'll have to see.

You can't help but like Jack. Sure, he's a hired gun with a lot of experience and little remorse, but there's just something about him. When he lets a person in, it comes with a promise of protection. Don't threaten the life of his friends or you WILL regret it. He knows what he's doing. He can find you. Anywhere.

L.T. Ryan writes an action-packed novella full of suspense, humor, and snappy dialogue. The words are short, to the point, and clear. Just how Jack would like them. Who knows, maybe Ryan has a secret too...

This deserves all five of the stars I've given it. It'll leave you wanting the next installment. That's a promise.
