4.5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!,

This review is from: My Noble Knight (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
Diedre of the Languedoc is of a regal and noble bloodline. She is the daughter of an important priestess and finds herself obligated to search for and bring home a relic stolen years before. Diedre must find this Philosopher's Stone and return it to its rightful place in a sacred grotto.
Deidre's search leads her to Scotland on Beltane. A night of carousing and sexual freedom, it is unlike anything Deidre has ever experienced before. Wide eyed and not paying attention, Diedre is captured and held by a brutish lout intent on claiming her for the night. Despite her protests to the contrary, she finds herself praying for a knight to save her. Rescue comes in the form of the laird's son, Gilead MacOengus who vows to keep her safe. When he questions her reason for being alone, she can only hope her answers will appease him because no one can discover her true agenda; especially not a man she has just met, no matter how attractive he is. Gilead desires to participate in Beltane but has resigned himself to doing his best to keep his lust-filled father away from the wife of an influential king. It is during this time that he sees a rather waif-like and innocent young woman fighting the advances of a huge man. Coming to her aid, Gilead promises her safety in his home though he finds himself wanting her for his very own. With invasion just around the doorstep, and a randy father to curtail, Gilead fights his attraction to Deidre. He knows she is not being completely honest with him and vows to figure out what she is hiding. MY NOBLE KNIGHT is set in Scotland during the historical period of time in which pagan ceremonies and Beltane celebrations were still allowed. A sweeping saga, this book kept me rooted to my seat and further immersed in the story with each turn of the page. I immediately fell in love with Gilead. His physical attributes aside - which were outstanding by the way - Gilead was an honorable man and fought his attraction as chivalry demanded. His falling in love with Deidre was noble and very satisfying. I particularly enjoyed how each struggled against the attraction until they couldn?t fight any longer. Cynthia Breeding has a great tale in MY NOBLE KNIGHT. I found it entertaining, well written, and completely captivating. Toasting this fine author, I raise my chalice high in hopes to see more of her work in the future!

Considering the extended and wonderful reviews posted before mine I will make this rather short.
Before purchasing this book I had never read from Cynthia Breeding, but I must say after reading I am an instant fan! This book was a wonderfully fun read. Once I had reached the first few chapters I could not put it down. I would recommend this book to any historical romance lover! The characters were beautifully created and finding love in the wrong time is wonderful. Full of steamy love, and lots of enticing love triangles. I give this novel a 5 star rating and cannot wait to read another by Cynthia Breeding!

Vastly Entertaining - Love the Heroine!,
By
This review is from: My Noble Knight (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
When Deidre of the Languedoc, daughter of a high priestess and direct descendent from the bloodline of Mary Magdalene sets out in search of the "Philosopher's Stone", she began an adventure that would be a turning point in her life. Carrying an old book with tales of a place called Camelot where fair ladies found themselves saved by chivalrous knights of old, she becomes enchanted with the thought that perhaps, she just may discover a noble knight for herself.
Deidre has the gift of `sight' but unfortunately, no control over when, or if, it happens to show up. She only knows that she feels she's on the right path towards finding the `stone'. When her escort is captured she escapes, only to find herself alone on Beltane eve. Caught unawares and about to be raped, she is saved by the most handsome man she's ever seen - Gilead MacOengus who in her mind is a dream come true, her very own `noble knight'. *** What a totally adventuresome and delightful read Ms. Breeding has come up with after her very original CAMELOT'S DESTINY! Keeping to much the same theme combining ancient myth with creativity and originality, she gives the reader a most entertaining and totally engrossing read. Deidre was a delight, from the very first moment she encountered Gilead, her romantic nature envisioned him as Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad all rolled into one. Sadly, she would soon find out that the world held not only noble knights but evil villains as well. Wow, does the author come up with a real slimy villain in which the author makes him so detestable that she had me on the edge of my seat thinking how in the world Deidre could be saved. Our hero Gilead was also well defined and complex, who had his hands full in trying to protect Deidre as well as his ailing mother. He was indeed the noblest of knights with an overabundance of honor - which thankfully his passion for Deidre would overcome! One thing I found was as the author built the sensual tension between our two younger lovers; she gives the readers an even more passionate and hotly sensual read with the secondary love affair between Gilead's father Angus and his lover Formorian - both married for duty but destined to love each other for eternity. While, not a proponent of extra-marital affairs, the author wrote this as a complex thread woven throughout, which truly surprised me with a terrific twist at the end of the story! - Sorry, my lips are sealed and you are just going to have to read this very sensually entertaining book to discover the secret of the stone, and the uniqueness of the noblest of knights. Ms. Breeding is a marvelous new talent who should be put on your auto-buy list. Marilyn Rondeau, RIO - Reviewers International Organization

2nd novel proved Breeding has staying power,
This review is from: My Noble Knight (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
The author of Camelot's Destiny is back, and with another wonderful tale of dark times.
Deidre, the daughter of a high priestess, a descendant from Mary Magdalene, sets out of the find the Philosopher's Stone. One of her precious possessions is a book about a distant time and place called Camelot. She relishes these tales, and one day hopes for a true knight of her own. She is gifted with "sight", but has no control over it and it tends to pop up when she can least afford it. When she finds herself stranded and in peril on Beltane, May Day Eve, she is rescued by Gildead MacOegnus, a handsome knight. To Deidre it's as if her dream has become a reality. In her second book, Cynthia Breeding demonstrates she is a writer who is here to stay and makes a place on my auto-buy list. It's simply a delightful read.

A Sweeping Romance--A Delight To Read!,
By
This review is from: My Noble Knight (Zebra Historical Romance) (Paperback)
Deidre of the Languedoc is the ancestress of Mary Magdalene and has been charged along with the rest of her druid family to protect the Philosopher's Stone. This precious stone has fallen into the wrong hands and when Deidre's mother kills herself because of the loss, it falls to her to find the stone and return it to it's rightful place. She travels to Scotland where she believes the stone is based on her visions. She also travels in the hopes of perhaps finding her own noble knight as she has read about in the Camelot legends. Yes, Deidre is many things and a romantic is one of them. When she is saved one night from being raped by oh so handsome Gilead she thinks she has indeed found her knight. But things swiftly prove otherwise. Scotland is not as the legend said it would be and the romantic tales of Knights and chivalry are a disappointment. And yet, Gilead always seems to come through for her. Is there a chance she will have her happy ending and find the love she has longed to embrace and find the stone her family seeks?
Ms. Breeding's second effort is a wonderful escape into a world long past but still much loved. Deidre and Gilead are a charming pair and their romance is highly entertaining. Deidre is a strong female lead and her naiveties are a charming part of her personality--as are her strengths. The attraction between her and Gilead is instant and the reader will feel this. This book really has it all. A touch of the Camelot myth, a dash of mystique and a great deal of creativity and you have the makings of a wonderfully engrossing read. I highly recommend Ms. Breeding and suggest you add this title to your summer reading list. You won't be disappointed. I look forward to more stories from this very talented writer.

I'll skip the summary and share what I liked and didn't like about the story. It started out interesting. Deidres quest for the Philosoper's Stone and the references to the Holy Grail and King Author. The author did a good job of weaving her story with the legends from the begining to the end of the story.
The problems that I had with the story was that the relationship between Deidre and Gilead was overshadowed by his fathers story. Sometimes their romance seemed to take a back seat to Augus(Gileads father) and his lady love Formorian. Also the book was set during a period of time I normally don't enjoy and this book reminded me why I ususally avoid this time period. There is so much history and things happening and the author has to be careful not to turn a romance novel into a dry history book but at the same time give the reader enough background info. of the setting. The clan issues and threats of war distracted form the romance. Over and over the same talk of clan wars and foregin invasions. Also I had enough of hearing that women were something to be traded and even killed by her husband whenever he wanted. These same two issues went on and on throughout the book. So much was going on that Deidre and Gilead were lost in the story. It was hard to believe that they feel in love when they never spent anytime together or really had meaningful converstion. I believe that they were in lust not love form the beginning until the end of the story.

I really tried to maintain interest in this book, but it lost me. My biggest complaint was that it was repetitive and lost its momentum about halfway through. I began to get so annoyed with the characters, and soon felt that our hero and heroine were acting like a couple of young idiots in love. Annoying! The sexual scenes didn't have the build-up of chemistry to make them interesting, and some of the erotic wording used seemed a bit sophomoric. Some character's behavior seemed to be very out of character at times. The plot kept getting lost in all the repetitive fuss and characters' interior reflections (once again, repetitive). It seemed like every 5 minutes our heroine was either nearly getting raped or being manhandled by her fiance. Then the rest of the time were her thwarted attempts to escape, repeatedly (have you noticed I found a lot of repetition? NOW I'm repeating myself!). And the constant poisoning or attacks-upon Angus' wife were ludicrous. Ugh!
I didn't even care enough about the quest or about the HEA to finish the book. Very disappointing because the story did sound like it would be a good one.

I love the numerous, unique twists and turns throughout the story that lead the characters to a happy ending. The distant links to the Arthurian legend lend a bit of mystique to the author's believable medieval tale. I found myself rooting for the gutsy heroine throughout the story. If you like historical, Scottish romance stories, this one is a must-read!

I am glad I read this book. I really enjoyed the characters. The authors descriptions brought them to life. The plot, mystery was very good but there was just something about the whole Philosophers Stone/The Book, etc thing that I couldn't really get into. I really wanted her to visit the grandmother at the Forest and the Black Lake. I think a visit there might have really been interesting and helped with a part of the story. Well, I would recommend this story if you like historical romance with alot of sexy scenes, strong characters and a good mystery. I just think the story could have been even better. I hope this helps?

I can only guess the few prior reviewers were friends and family. This is the first book I paged ahead to the end halfway through the story. I just had to do my part to remove a five star rating on such dribble.
