About the Author

Chautona strives to write about average people with genuine problems, and how they strive to live their lives to the glory of God. Some of their methods are unconventional and their situations aren't pristine and free from the taint of sin in this world, but all care more about serving the Lord and each other than obtaining some Utopian ideal.

More About the Author

When asked about writing, author Chautona Havig says, "Books. I love them- always have. From my earliest years, I spent most of my free time lost in a book, until one day I realized that I had stories in my heart and mind that I wanted to tell. Time passed, life, family, and work got in the way, and my dream of being a writer seemed to vanish into the desert winds.

Dreams are beautiful things, though; they never quite disappear. I began writing again, editing, writing, editing...more editing... and now I have over a hundred books in progress and a few dozen published. I write the stories of fictional people who have real problems, weaknesses, and triumphs. Through their stories, I try to share the Hope that is within me."

Chautona lives in a small, remote town in California's Mojave Desert with her husband and seven of her nine children. When not writing, she enjoys paper crafting, sewing, and the knowledge that someday she'll be able to retire from home education.

My bookshelves are mostly devoted to sci-fi, horror and suspense, but a friend asked me to read something a little different so I took a chance. I have to say, ultimately, I'm glad I did.

While, Mrs. Havig's writing style is a little different than what I normally would choose, she definitely doesn't leave the reader unsatisfied. Yes, it is a romance story and was soft and very sweet, but I love that the main male character steps outside of societal norms, and goes looking for what he wants in a woman...and doesn't accept the the practice of dating as the world sees it.

My philosophy is `too many books, too little time.' So, I rarely reread books. This one, however, is one of the few that I have. Any book that can make me go back for a second read will always have a spot on my favorite list.

I can't wait to read what Mrs. Havig produces next!

I bought this book because in the summary it seemed like it would be a love story told from the man's perspective, and it sounded like an original and refreshing concept. But I was disappointed that the entire story just seemed to be bent on sending the message that: professional women=bad homemaker=good. The book goes as far as using feminist as a put down at one point, which always rubs me the wrong way and is especially disappointing from a female author.

The leading man, Nolan, really wants a wife, and it's really no surprise that he isn't attracted to the caricatures of desperate women that live in his city. They hit on him at business meetings, which I found very unrealistic since I doubt any professional would act so tacky while doing business. So he moves and meets Grace, who despite earning a graduate degree in physics chooses to stay home, babysit, and work on various projects. While I respect anyone, woman or man, who chooses to tend to their home, there is really never any explanation of why Grace decided on this after going through all the trouble of studying physics, so that was unrealistic point number 2 for me. I did like that Grace was very entrepreneurial and took on projects like sewing and making jam to make money, and I thought this could've been a great way to show that we can all make a decent living doing what makes us happy, but throughout the book everyone is always worried about Grace not being able to make ends meet, so clearly she isn't making a decent living. So much for an original, refreshing, concept, it's the typical woman NEEDS a man scenario, and to top it off man hates assertive women (these don't really exist in the book, though, you are either demure or completely forward and tacky).

While I enjoyed the idea of this story and the thought the author put into it to make it a biblically based picture of courtship, marriage and family, but it was frustrating for me to read. It lacked romantic passion. I'm not asking for a rated R version by any means, but there was not much in this developing relationship that showed that Grace and Nolan had any chemistry. There is nothing wrong with passion, and a connection to the one God has for you. Nolan hinted to some strong desires at one point, but Grace never mentioned or had thoughts about how attractive she was to Nolan. All in all, I enjoyed the story line and most of the characters. Grace bothered me at times. It would have received 4 or 5 stars if it had chemistry in it between Nolan and Grace.

From the first time I read this, I was in love. As a matter of fact, I read beginning to end in one day. I couldn't put it down. I absolutely LOVE how Nolan isn't the norm when it comes to worldly views regarding marriage, life and women. I love how Grace can completely go against the grain with her penny pinching and desire to not work outside of the home w/ the exception of selling canned products and babysitting. This book is really great. I just loved it completely. :-D

Buy it. Read it. You will not be sorry.

Noble Pursuits is about just that, pursuits that are noble. Grace is a lovely woman who is the living example of her name. She is not, however, perfect and it makes her even more, well perfect. I love that I can relate to her even as she challenges me. Noble Pursuits is one of my favorite books of Chautona's and I eagerly await many more!

I just loved this book. It was refreshing and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. It seemed good to have the handsome man not be looking for the perfect looking women on the outside but beauty on the inside. Most books the women are tiny and so beautiful, never over weight, I loved that Grace was an ordinary women. Chautona Havig brings the Lord into everyday life with lessons that we can all learn from. I would highly recommend this book to anyone as well as any of Chautona's books. She is my favorite author. Noble Pursuits Marilyn

A beautiful love story - it had the leading man, his romantic interest - yet she wasn't the typical gorgeous woman - but was a beautiful woman inside and out.
