My son's teachers kept telling me my son was overly competitive and bossy -- They said he'd make a great CEO but right now it was really harming his relationship with other kids. They recommended Nobody Likes Me, Everybody Hates Me. I have to tell you that I had doubts -- I've tried these parenting books and if you can find one idea that is useful you're jumping up and down. This one really is helpful and simple to do. It's literally filled with ideas you can use to help your child. I read through the two chapters with my son's friendship issues and instantly saw what I was doing wrong. We're now working on the friendship skill builder for bossy and over competitive and the teachers say they've already seen changes with my kid. This is the one parenting book I'd recommend. It works!

I love this book! My girlfriend recommended it because she knew my son was having troubles with bullies and is so sensitive. I think I must own every book on friendship building. But this is the only book that offers me specific suggestions that really are helpful for my child. The format of the book is easy to use -- you don't have to read the whole book!!! You just turn to the problem and find the suggestion that works best for your child. Then you use the friendship skill builder - or what the author says is the most indispensable skill that the child needs to minimize the problem. She's right. Without helping my child learn to use assertive body language, all the comebacks in the world wouldn't have helped him deal with these mean kids. I highly recommend this book - it made a major difference on my child's life.

The advice in this book is easy to understand and follow, but sometimes falls into the realm of overly simplistic. I found myself searching vainly through the book for more depth, but I am not sorry that it got me started on the right track to tackling my issue with my daughter.

I thought this book was great and offered plenty of great advice (my children are 2-7 so I am reviewing it from that perspective). There are discussions on 25 friendship problems: argues, bad friends, bad reputation, bossy, bullied and harassed, cliques, clueless, different, does't share, fights, gossips, hot tempered, insensitive, jealous and resentful, left out, new kid, peer pressure, shy, siblings, sleepovers, tattletale, teased, tiffs and breakups, too competative, and too sensitive. No one child is going to have all these problems, but the sections are separate so you can read just the sections that apply to your child.

The reason I docked one star is because of the "shy child" section. I have a very quiet, or "shy" child so was particularily interested in this part. However, the author points out to never let anyone call your child "shy" but "SHY" is in the title of her chapter, in the title of all the suggested reading books for children and parents, and is the word of choice to talk about this personality trait. So, it's really confusing. Does she think the word shy is OK or not? It's not totally clear....Anyhow, I guess the main point is even if your child is "shy" don't let him/her use this as an excuse. Help him/her to work thru it.

Anyhow, I would recommend this book for your parenting library. It's easy to use and well organized.

Nobody Likes Me... is a fabulous book. There is so much emphasis these days placed on teaching kids the 3 R's and preparing them for future careers that many parents don't realize that social competence and confidence are what really enable kids to grow up to be successful and happy people.

And, sadly, there are few opportunities for kids to develop these social skills. As the author of Your Children are Under Attack: How Popular Culture is Destroying Your Kids' Values, and How You Can Protect Them (Sourcebooks, 2005), I regularly see a culture of peer pressure, bullying, cliques, social ostracism, and cruelty in schools.

Dr. Borba offers parents valuable insights and practical tools they can use to minimize the destructive aspects and maximize the positive aspects of their children's relationships. She shows kids how to develop healthy and safe friendships, and how to avoid the bad roads that popular culture tells them they need to go down to be accepted and popular.

Dr. Borba's book is an essential weapon that parents can use in the war against popular culture. Teaching children how to develop and maintain meaningful and lasting friendships, and to gain the skills and confidence in their "social selves" are wonderful gifts that all parents can give their children to lead a successful and happy life. Dr. Borba's book can show the way.

I was always concerned about my daughter - she's great, wonderful, but is so easily swayed by peers. The chapters in this book on cliques, gossip, and peer pressure are worth the purchase of the whole book. This book is literally filled with actual strategies and ideas to help my daughter REALLY stand up to peers and say no. I highly recommend it. Rarely have I found a book that offers specific ways to arm a kid against that social jungle out there. Highly recommended!!!

My child had such problems with being teased and picked on. I was at at loss for how to help him. The chapter on teased was worth the whole book. I opened it and immediately started helping my child learn how to stand up to his teaser. It was easy to do. I loved the easy format - more like a cookbook. THe best thing was when my child came home excited and said "It worked mom," It made the whole thing worth while. Now we're going to start on the chapter on Over sensitive. I highly recommend this book! It really helped make a difference.

I really regret having spent money on this book. Most of what is included in it is either common sense or not very helpful. For example, in the section on the child who is, "Left Out," the first bullet under "What Should I Do?" reads, "Teach Your child how to deal with rejection. If your child whines, cries, or pleads to be included, chances are she'll turn the group off. So suggest she try to maintain her dignity in of her pain." This book didn't add anything to my existing social skillset and did not allow me to help my child at all. Do not purchase this book if your child does not pick up on social clues easily and/or acts impulsively. Real life social situations with children do not allow the kind of time and focus needed for the approaches included in this book. Your child will need to be able to be 100% mindful of his/her behavior during all social interactions in order to make these approaches work and honestly, if my child were capable of that, I probably wouldn't have felt the need to purchase the book in the first place.

This is another great resource from Michele Borba! As a teacher, I am always looking for proactive ways to help kids build their social skills and this book provides a great tool to do it. Filled with practical tips and ideas to guide children through everything from bullying to shyness, simply flip to a remedy and help a child build more confidence, self-esteem and friendships. This is a book you'll want on your teacher's bookshelf to refer to again and again!

This is a very helpful book, easy to read with lots of practcal tips and information. I love the suggested words and phrases. The way the book is set up is easy too to access the information. I would definitely recommend this book for any parent, grandparent, teacher or interested-in-children adult. No problem giving it 5 stars!
