Your vocabulary will literally improve by reading Cannon. He was the best and most gifted sportswriter of his generation and arguably the best ever. He has great insight, academic intelligence, a sterling wit, and an incomparable array of urban verbiage. He was a deadline Hemingway who is nothing short of an absolute delight to read.

A master of setting the scene, usually one populated by life's less fortunate. Cannon was the best of his time, when the sports pages boasted the best writing to be found anywhere. Great read!!

Brilliant take on NYC in the 1940's and 50's from a top sports writer and newspaper man. Well written, fast paced and clever in the style of DAMON RUNYON.

It was ok, not what I remembered when Jimmy's column was in the New York Journal American. Maybe I Forgot.
