Book Description

January 10, 2005
The story Nobody's Child begins in Ireland in 1847 in County Cork and is retold by the author as it has been passed down through her family over the years until the present day. It is not a tale of woe and despair, but rather a moving tribute to Aine and Molly Murphy, but especially Aine. It tells of their triumph over adversity and of the great courage, strength, spirit and hope within them. Live with Aine and Molly through a nightmare journey that took them far from their Irish home to the shores of America where they were "adopted" by Irish-born Ma and Pa Ryan who, with a large brood of their own, had enough love in their hearts for these two young children. Thrill at the wonders awaiting Aine in America and be amazed by the golden thread of her spirit, which from the beginning to the end of the story anchors her so effectively that nothing and no one could vanquish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Irish author Leo Byrne, August 17, 2005

There have been many stories told in the past and to this very day about the horrors of the Irish Famine. Anne Kelly gives the reader of this book a vivid detail of what the people in Ireland experienced during those terrible times, especially the little children.

While reading Nobody's Child, one cannot help but feel "anguish, sadness, and anger at the rogues in this story, but on the same token, a feeling of joy at times, to see the relief and the survival of these strong willed children. Out of the ashes a rose shall grow, and it does, but let us not forget the horrible times of that famine and learn from it

5.0 out of 5 stars A very powerful tale told with integrity, March 27, 2005
This review is from: Nobody's Child (Paperback)
I don't normally go for books that are schmoozy about historical fiction - and I was rather surprised to find myself picking this up in a store and reading the first few pages. I loved it! I don't quite know why I did but I found it so very captivating that I read the whole thing in one sitting in the bookstore! I felt that I had to buy it to reward the author. Read it - you won't be disappointed.
