Book Description

December 1, 2001
A devastating earthquake rips through the small, coastal town of Milford-Haven, causing citizens to blame builders, who in turn blame environmentalists who blame the economy for the cascading disaster. But woven through the turmoil is the slow recognition that forgiveness is the healing balm everyone must learn to apply, for some things in life are simply nobody's fault.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The writing is crisp and clean, the dialogue realistic, the scenes well described. I salute Mara Purl's ingenuity." -- Bob Johnson, former Managing Editor, Associated Press

The earthquake metaphor - potentially a bad pun -becomes, through Mara Purl's deft abilities, a reflective and compelling tale. -- Muse Magazine, November 1, 2001

About the Author

Mara Purl is the creator/producer of "Milford-Haven, U.S.A.," the first environmental radio soap opera. The only American radio soap ever licensed and broadcast by the BBC, the show reached an audience of 4.5 million listeners throughout the U.K. "Milford-Haven" won the Finalist Award at the 1994 New York Festivals International Radio Competition, which included 1,298 entries from 32 countries. New York's Museum of Television & Radio and Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications have placed all broadcast episodes of "Milford-Haven" into their permanent archive collections.

Mara's writing credits include two cover stories for Rolling Stone, staff writing with the Financial Times (of London), and an Associated Press assignment to cover the Apollo Soyuz mission, where she was the youngest reporter ever to win the NASA pool position in Mission Control. She is the co-author (with Erin Gray) of "Act Right: A Manual for the On-Camera Actor."

Ms. Purl and Ms. Gray have created domestic violence teaching materials including the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence training video, the PSA "Step Forward," for which they won the 1999 Women's Peacepower Award, and the domestic violence web site. Mara partnered with Emmy-award winning director Dan Hamilton to co-produce the audio book "The Hidden Legacy: Uncovering, Confronting & Healing Three Generations of Incest."

Mara is also the creator of "Student Radio Drama," a complete teaching curriculum for which she has received grants from AT&T, The Kennedy Center, and Communities In Schools, whereby she is able to teach both gifted and underprivileged students. She has taught her class at several high schools and is visiting professor at The Colorado College, and at the University of Alaska Summer Arts Camp, and at the University of Colorado. Based on her teaching experiences, she has created "S.T.A.R." - a teen soap now in development for the internet with partner Dan Hamilton.

Mara performed regularly as an actress, and her interest in soap opera began with her recurring role on "Days Of Our Lives." Mara is also a composer and musician who performs with the New York City Ballet, and she has released two CDs. Her rich artistic background includes growing up in Tokyo, Japan, and a performing and literary degree from Bennington College. She is married and lives in Los Angeles, California.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly captivating and entertaining book, June 29, 2005
This review is from: Nobody's Fault: Milford-Haven Book 5 (Paperback)
As a scientist who has measured and studied tectonic plate motions, I found the first four of Mara Purl's series on Milford-Haven quite captivating. I particularly like the forays into various spiritual, psychological and technical realms. Her insights into art, music, and nature seem to emerge in a way similar to their appearance in life. Quite an impressive creation. After helping with her with research for "Nobody's Fault", it was fun to read and see she'd woven the threads of facts into the fabric well.
