One Of The Best,

I had to buy this on CD because I finally wore out the copy I had on vinyl because I played it so much! I feel that "Nobody's Fool" is one of the best songs ever. I used to play this at parties for the people that said they didn't like Slade, and after awhile their leg would be shakin' and their heads would be bobbin' up and down. <grin>

SLAMMIN',
By Kevin Marsico (Very Cold New York!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nobody's Fools (Audio CD)
My big brother Steve turned me and my lumbering friend on to this back in 1977. The album had already been out for some time but not in the usual pop radio circuit. When we played it for the first time we were FLOORED! It is one of the heaviest hitting albums I have ever heard and I still select it out of my collection to be played quite often, and that after 23 years! If you like "pure" Rock & Roll after a true hard rock fashion as opposed to what the Rock Radio stations so love to call "classic" these days, YOU will LOVE this! The voice of Noddy Holder is a powerful force in the landscape of this music and the band backing him up with their cruel SG's are a perfect blend for really Kicking out the Jams! It'll come out of your pores!

Not the loudest Slade available,

Not a bad album, but if you 're looking for the madness of Slade, this is not the one.Nobody's Fools is more melodic, quiet and even melancholic...no stampin your feet here!If you're not familiar with Slade and heard they were crazeeee and Noddy was the strongest singer in the world, get "Alive", "Old, new borrowed & blue" or even a "Best of"( "Wall of Hits").Still SLADE is example of good rockin' and partyin'!

Noddy and the Boyz Rock!,

I once read a review which said that this Slade lp was horrible. In fact, the reviewer wrote the album Nobody's Fools..."Who says?"...WELL that reviewer was wrong and so were any other doubters of Slade's music and this album. In For a Penny is a powerful song as is the title track. Slade was always known for powerful percussion and caustic vocals - this lp is no exception.Like a previous reviewer wrote - I have worn my lp from constant play - get the cd - cuz its crazee!!!

a bit of a strange one this; in my opinion slade were trying too hard to please their american audience (this was recorded during their two-year stint in the u.s.) by toning-down the glam and the rock.even so still one of my faves; you can't fault a good song and jimmy lea has melodies by the bucket load....fave tracks of mine are l.a. jinx and all the world's a stage.

A Vetty Vetty Brrritish band Indeed!,
By David (Burnsville, MN USA) - See all my reviews

True, this album was recorded at a time when Slade were working hard at cracking the American market, but, nonetheless, produced another perfect Slade album for all! Whether you're looking to round out your Slade collection or for a great inroduction into the British/Glam/Platform Shoes phenoms, I would highly recommend this album! After reading other reviews here, I find that I wasn't the only one who simply let side one (on vinyl) play over and over; listening to the first three selections is a blast! From the top-fortyish "Nobody's Fools" title track, to the grittier "Do the Dirty", as well as the totally-fun "Let's Call It Quits", this album is fun, frivolity, and mischievousness all rolled in to one! (Ironically the album also includes a tear-jerker (All The World Is A Stage) as the last selection. . .) Through it all, Neville Holder's famous vocals play Q and A with Lea's bass lines and Hill's guitar licks. Don't settle for a greatest hits compilation when you can have it all ("Pack Up Your Troubles" could get air play on any folk radio station here in the 'states) with this album; it's music about life, the inevitable (death), romance, breaking up, winning, losing, business deals, and making the best of it by simply looking into yourself. The true chemistry and genius of Holder/Lea/Hill/Powell certainly comes through, so sit back, let your emotions ride the roller coaster, and enjoy! David from B-Ville

OH my gosh! Later turning into Quiet Riot where their fame was more noted than when they were Slade. This CD drives rock home. LA Jinx, Nobody's fool, they are all good songs. You will not be disappointed with this old classic! ROCK ON! I am a native of St. Louis where great rock lives on!

Slade's last great album,
By Stereo Fan "Stereo Fan" (Southern CA United States) - See all my reviews

I can't figure out why I hated this album when it came out in '76. It's a fantastic record with some of the best songwriting from Holder and Lea. It also features some of Noddy's best vocalizations and excellent guitar from Dave Hill. I guess I considered it too commercial. Back then, if a record had anything but guitar, bass and drums well...The albums that followed included "Back to Base", and "'Till Deaf Do Us Part". The band was fine on those records, but the well of good songs had dried up. The essential Slade collection includes "Nobodies Fools", "Slayed", "Sladest", "Old New Borrowed and Blue", "In Flame", "Slade Alive", "Play it Loud". "Ambrose Slade" is only for the curious.
