People recognize Noctua products when they see one because of the color scheme that they use on their fans and that's what makes Noctua unique from different manufactures. Noctua has gained a lot of positive recognition in the cooling market because of their exceptional CPU coolers and amazing fans. Noctua recently introduced two new CPU coolers, the NH-U12S and NH-U14S CPU coolers. Both of these CPU coolers offer amazing performance and it certainly wouldn't be a Noctua product if it wasn't for the well-known color scheme on the fan. The NF-F12 PWM fan is possibly the quietest fan that I have ever tested and delivers amazing airflow/noise efficiency. The Noctua NH-U12S cooler comes with a whopping 6 year warranty that's rarely seen on a CPU cooler.
In this review I will be stress testing the NF-U12S to its limits and we'll see how much heat this thing can handle. I will be testing both active and passive cooling performance because I have seen many people on forums say that they want their computer to be as silent as possible so we'll see how well the NF-U12S does in that area. The NH-U12S comes with five heatpipes made out of nickel plated copper and the fins made of aluminum. Noctua's products are always easy to install and the installation of the NF-U12S is really easy as well thanks to the SecuFirm 2 mounting system which I will talk more about later.
What I like about Noctua is that everything from fan design to bearing design is done in house.Read more ›

The Noctua NH-U12S is the traditional tower style cooler but it has thin profile, it's designed with maximum compatibility in mind so it should fit fine in most cases and have no issues with performance style ram that feature large heatspreaders.
Noctua is a company that never ceases to amaze me, they've committed themselves to making quality and good performing products and the NH-U12S is a testament to that fact, it's very well made cooler with a excellent cooling performance.
Installation of the NH-U12S posed no problems for me or my system, (Asus z68 gen3 mobo and Intel core i7 2600k) there was plenty of room around the socket area and ram slots, the cooler easily cleared the larger than average chipset heatsinks my motherboard has and didn't cover the ram slots even with the fan installed. The SecuFirm2 mounting system is easy to use and allows for a quick installation while holding the cooler firmly in place. Noctua has provided re-designed fan clips that are easier to use and seem to hold the fan in place more securely.
The cooling ability of the NH-U12S is excellent, the cooler ships with just one fan and in that configuration it performed very well, only a couple degrees higher than a liquid cooling system; that right there says a lot about the ability of this little cooler.
You can install an optional second fan for even more cooling ability, but just one fan should work fine for most people I would think.
Using one or two fans the NH-U12S didn't add any more noise to my system, overall it's a very quiet cooler even under load.
If you're looking for a cooler that's quiet, performs well, and one that should fit in any situation, then you should seriously consider the NH-U12S from Noctua.Read more ›

This highly rated CPU cooler comes inside premium packaging with brackets for the latest Intel and AMD CPU's. This is a large, heavy and sturdy model that comes with a backplate to slide behind the motherboard and make all the screw connections tight and secure. There are no worries about this thing coming apart on its own.
I bought the NH-U12 S model because it is a little smaller than the NH-U14 that allegedly overhangs the memory slots. This U12 model's fan stops just short of the extended heatsinks of the Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM kit installed.
Using this cooler, I can overclock my Core i7 4770K CPU to 4.3 GHz with no problems. Using the UEFI bios of the ASRock Z87M OC Formula motherboard, I can even clock it to 4.6 GHz, but temperature throttling limits performance. I guess you need liquid cooling to get the very best out of the latest Haswell chips.

Cools stock i7-4770k to in-case temperature (34C) under normal load. The fan is quiet and manages its speed reliably. Good instructions, admirable design and compatibility with both LGA 1150 boards I tried make this easy to recommend.

Let's keep this short and concise! I was using a stock cpu cooler until a day ago. I installed the Noctua NH-u12s and there was quite a significant drop in CPU Idle Temp!
My CPU: Intel i3-4130 @ 3.40GHz
Stock Cooler: 53 C = 127F
Noctua NH-u12s: 24 C = 75F
now the idle temperature fluctuates a few degree's but WOW! what a difference.
CON: that it's a tight fit to set the CPU chip with the Noctua Brackets installed. bit tricky. fan color scheme (not my favorite)
other than that. comes with a 6 year warranty. spend the extra bucks and buy this.
