Back with a second album of thoughtful new themes, Sun Airway's Soft Fall takes us to an ethereal layer between worlds. The sonically inspiring sub-strata of Soft Fall began in songwriter/producer Jon Barthmus' house in Philadelphia. Classical foundations were chopped, dissected, and sewn back together by a string quartet in one recording studio, with live instruments overdubbed in ... Read more in Amazon's Sun Airway Store

Editorial Reviews

The first time Sun Airway's crackling pop sounds made their way through our speakers, we heard what felt like the lost soundtrack to the next Sofia Coppola film; atmospheric yet catchy, hazy but somehow vital and immediate. Sun Airway has hit on the sweet spot where infectious hooks and cerebral electronic pop intersect, pulling textural sound and pop songcraft into one. It is hard to imagine namedropping both the Strokes and Animal when describing a single band , but that is exactly what Pitchfork has done ,while describing "Put the Days Away" and "Infinity," two tracks from the band's debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars LIGHT AND BREEZY October 23, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Light and breezy, their sound is similar on all the tracks. I don't mean that in a bad way, such as Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. The music is ambient and makes for great mood music. The vocals are fairly well drowned out by the music, that it might as well not be there as it serves more of a distraction than an enhancement. Fortunately you can adjust your stereo to eliminate most of their echo chamber vocals.

The lead track, Infinity was my favorite. My cat danced to Track 8, but that could have been just the catnip setting in. Definitely good head music.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant psychedelic dreamscape pop April 5, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Philadelphia debut from former members of the A-Sides. Heavenly, floating psychedelic dream-
scape pop filled with gorgeous, trippy, melodic, caressing soundwashes and occasional electro-
percussive rhythmic drives. A flight of angels passing by in a joyous acid dance, sky high with the
weightless ease of a naturally buoyant, carefree twilight movement. Soap bubbles on a summer
day, each one ringing a separate harmonic note as it blissfully expires. Cloud-pillow diving with
a song in your heart. You get it. Bits of Cocteau Twins, Flaming Lips, The Strokes, Chapterhouse,
Animal Collective, Guitar, Tame Impala.

5.0 out of 5 stars What You've Been Waiting For June 27, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
Great songs, beautiful music that is often danceable as well, melody, hooks-- this was the best pop/indie/whatever album of 2010. "Blissful" is the best word to describe it, but if you must...Jon Barthmus' voice sounds like a mix of Casablancas from the Strokes and Ian McCulloch. The music gets compared to Animal Collective and I can hear that-- samples, exotic sound effects, bold arrangements. But instead of the sweaty psychedelia of Animal Collective, this is plangent, earnest pop. It's really a different approach with similar instruments.
In any case, not to be missed. You've been waiting and slogging through blogs looking for something revelatory, something special. This is it.
