Nadirah Shakoor has the pipes, but does not show her full talent on this CD. She has been Jimmy Buffett's main back-up talent for years. On this CD she pays homage to here summertime employer. There is a uniques selection of songs...and not just Jimmy's most popular. I enjoyed this CD, but wished that Nadirah had chosen songs that really showed her vocal talent.

Love it!,

This CD is great. Nadirah's voice is pure and sweet and she offers a nice take on some of the Buffett standards. The songs new to me are fantastic. It's a nice addition to a music library; the songs are fun.

Pure soul from the heart,

I totally enjoyed this CD and recommend it to everyone, parrotheads and
non-parrotheads alike. I particularly love "They call me Jesus" and the remix of "Volcano"(with a whole bunch of soul) Jimmy should be proud as hell to have Nadirah and the rest of Coral Reefers representing him and the record label this way.

Not your same old Buffett tunes!,

While you may have heard these great Jimmy Buffett songs a time or two before, you've never heard them with Nadirah at the wheel. Nadirah brings her soulful & lighthearted flavor to some old favorites and introduces us to some that may well become new favorites! Being an accountant, I am partial to track #5. We 'bean-counters' are usually forgotten unless it's April 15th or the IRS has called you! This is a fun cd, I used several as stocking stuffers which were then quickly unwrapped and played as we continued celebrating the holidays.

Incredible!,

I love all the songs on this album, but my favorite is "Open" which is one of the songs penned by Nadirah! This should definitely be an award winning album!
Nadirah is an incredible artist!

Charming & Adorable.
Darling, Absolutely Darling. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to it. "When This War is Over"_trk 12 is awesome. I can totally see them performing this at the Grammy's or American Music Awards with people popping up out of the audience singing and clapping. NADIRAH totally rawks this piece.

I have listened to Nadirah sing with Jimmy Buffett for many years and was excited when I saw she released her own CD. I can tell you if you enjoy her voice on songs like Creola - you will LOVE this disc. She adds a dimension of soul and depth to the coral reefers and she brings the same here.
Can't wait for her to release more solo work...

I first was introduced to Nadirah's rich and beautiful voice when I heard her as a back-up in Jimmy Buffett's "Son of a Sailor". I immediately wanted to know more about this singer.
I was excited to listen to "Nod to the Story Teller" and it doesn't disappoint. It's a great compilation of Buffett's hits without trying to upstage him. She also includes some originals with my favorite being "Frenchman for the Night". Her beautiful voice comes through along with the art of story telling. The album is hard to classify into a genre. It's a little bit reggae/R&B gospel/bohemian French. It will be added to my summer - headed to the beach CD's as a way to relax and enjoy the season.

Great Voice, Classic Songs, Nothing New,

This review is from: Nod to the Storyteller (Audio CD)
Nadirah has a great voice, and it's a great set of songs, every Parrothead will buy it. Unfortunately, she falls a bit flat (not literally, I don't think there's a missed note). The songs are unoriginal remakes of the originals, with nothing added to give it a special zing.
Of course, I'll still listen, just maybe not as much as I would otherwise. |
