Until recently I didn't know this 1966 recording had been reissued. Many years ago the LP was a great favorite of mine, combining some of the best of Noel Coward's songs with Dame Sutherland in peak form and singing them to perfection.

About a decade ago I had the pleasure of meeting her at a party and chatting about music with her. Among other things I mentioned that I so wished this recording was available on CD. And now at last here it is! I've ordered two copies, one for myself which I am enjoying now to the max, and another as a Christmas present for an old friend who I know will love it too.

The songs -- well is there anything more grandly romantic than Coward's "I'll Follow My Secret Heart" or "I'll See You Again" and "Ziguener." That's a rhetorical question. The oceanic Sutherland voice with a full orchestra makes for wonderful listening.

If you appreciate the works of either of these two great artists, you are in for a very special treat. Pure bliss.

Excerpt from Noel Coward's diary:
Wednesday 6 July 1966. "On Tuesday I recorded in the morning with Joan Sutherland. I had very little to do. I merely spoke bits of the verses of 'Secret Heart'
and 'Dearest Love'. Her voice really is incredible and to hear her singing my music with a big orchestra was a rare treat." The orchestra he refers to was conducted by Richard Bonynge and the arrangements of Coward's songs are unabashedly lush~an ideal framework for the voice of Joan Sutherland who in 1966 was in her prime. For those accustomed to his witty revue songs these selections provide a more balanced picture of his talents as a composer.
Conversation Piece, Bitter Sweet, Operette, After The Ball, and Pacific 1860 are represented in an album which, to this listener, was buried treasure.

Joan Sutherland was at her peak when she recorded the songs of Noel Coward. The best recording is I'll Follow My Secret Heart. She brings out all the emotion. All the songs are wonderfully sung.
