A Kid's Review
This review is from: Noel Renaissance (Audio CD)
"This disc features traditional French Christmas folk songs from the 15th,16th and 17th centuries. The songs have been passed down through performers, as their composers have been long forgotten. Singer Helene Dallaire makes a lovely debut on these songs, most sung in their original dialects. There's a beautiful rendition of "Greensleeves". from: Pulse Magazine (Tower Records) Dec. 1999

I had known of the producer and percussionist on this recording, Peter Magadini, from his work as a jazz drummer. He has written a universally-used textbook on drumming, and he toured with Diana Ross, as her drummer. So, I was especially interested in his venture into a different realm. The focus on French Renaissance music is perfect for vocalist, Helene Dallaire, from Montreal. Her tone evokes a purity associated with a bygone era. In the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle, you can escape into this music -- and relax....
