The intensely Latin flavor of Noel's compositions is totally lost in this CD. The attempt to make this music accessible to international markets has gone entirely too far - one cannot recognize the doleful melodies of Noel: they are buried under voice acrobatics. And of course the superb poetry of the original songs is lost...

Noel Rosa was one of Brazil's greatest composer/geniuses. This recording brings his sambas, written in the 30's, to our listening style. Leandro Braga is a world-class pianist with his own brilliant CD, "Pé na Cozinha." He has worked with the greatest Brazilian luminaries, including here the remarkable Johnny Alf.
Rosa's masterpieces have been re-recorded and re-interpreted by every significant Brazilian artist. This is one of the best -- a collector's album.
