5.0 out of 5 stars Wow., May 11, 2003

I've seen Noise Ratchet in concert 10 times now, so I think I can speak confidently on their new album.
To be honest, I was skeptical about a new release from the band. It seemed it could be like the all-too-familiar scenario where a band runs out of ideas too early, comes out with something completely contrived, and crashes and burns. But Noise Ratchet proved me wrong (and oh, how happy am I because of it).
Not only are these songs stunning, dynamic, and beatiful - they're also fresh and different. "When Losing Ends" is the perfect opener, with blazing, chunky guitars and cut-rhythms. "Fiction Arms" displays Joel's amazing vocal range and talent. "From Your lips" is a creative, beautiful, slower song. "A way to your heart" is a remake of the piano-ballad from the album "Till We Have Faces", and is just gorgeous (especially live!). "New Room" and "Desire" are great as well, and I love how the latter features Jon Foreman of Switchfoot.
Overall, the songwriting on this EP just blows me away. It is FAR and above the quality on Till We Have Faces (and I've listened to that album over and over again).
Take it from me, I usually detest anything that sounds "emo". But the Ratchet has this incredible flair for making it all fresh, more aggressive, and just tasteful.
I high encourage anyone to see them live - they are unlike any other band you'll ever see.

This cd is the best! It's just so sad that there isn't more songs on it.
