The cable is a genuine Nokia cable, and the quality is as expected for such a cable. I bought it to get photos off my son's cell phone, and there are a couple of issues.
The cable does not come with a driver disk, instead you must go to the Nokia website. The North American site was not helpful for the 6350; although may be for other models. The two pieces of software (OVI Suite and the older Nokia PC Suite) which supposedly contain the drivers do NOT function with the 6350. [Note after trying to use them, I had to remove the OVI and Nokia PC suites to avoid conflicts with the correct driver discussed below.] I finally found the correct CA-101 cable driver on the Nokia Australia website [...] Under "PC Software" select the "Cable drivers" link. Next select "Driver for Nokia data cables." Another page appears, then select "MSI Download now" link to actually download the driver. After the driver installs, change the phone settings as follows: Select the "Settings" folder in the menu area. Scroll down to "Connectivity". Next scroll down to "USB data cable" which has three possbile selections. Choose "Printing & Media" The phone now shows up as "Nokia" under my desktop "My Computer" folder when the cable is inserted and the phone turned on. Double click on the "Nokia" and you can go down into the subfolders to locate the photo files and copy them to your computer (simple drag & drop). It was a multi-hour hassle to figure all this out, but the CA-101 cable and Nokia 6350 now work as expected.

I purchased this cable as a spare to use at the office. Its the Nokia OEM for the E71x and a hell of deal. At that bargain price for an OEM, I suggest you order 2 and keep one as a spare or for the office. Received the cable within 2 days.

This was exactly what I needed to connect my new Sanyo phone to my computer via the USB connection. It also serves as a spare charger.
My phone is a Sanyo Katana Eclipse from Bell. Before you can transfer via this cable you MUST change the setting on your phone to the "mass storage" mode if you are using a phone like mine. (You may have to do the same on other makes/models). This option was under the "tools" menu on my phone. You will not be able to use your phone for calls while in this mode but your PC will then be able to recognize it. You may also need drivers (on your PC) but since I had already installed some while testing other issues, I can not be certain. I used drivers from a program called "Sprint Smartview For Windows" which I found on the Net, installed and then uninstalled which seemed to leave the drivers. I would recommend trying the cord with the "Mass storage" mode first. If it doesn't work, then try the program I mentioned (to get the drivers). No need to actually run the program. Anyway, good deal on the cable (couple bucks and change). Shipping was a bit high though to get it to Canada - close to 15 bucks but still, less than half the price of buying it from Bell [...] Lastly, don't be stupid like me - order more than one since you are already paying the shipping. It would be handy to have one for work and one for home/mobile for a couple bucks more. |
