Waste of money!!,
This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I fell in love with Nokia phones in the early 90's. I've loved every Nokia I've ever owned except this one. Within one week the outside mini display stopped working. It looks like a giant splatter mark although the phone was not mistreated. Today I noticed that the main display has started blinking and then cutting off. I tried every setting the phone had to stop the blinking. After cruising through message boards I have dicovered that other people have had the same problems with the mini display and the blinking main display. I wanted so much to love this new phone and am sorely disappointed that I cannot. I will try using the warranty through Nokia to get the phone fixed, but that leaves me with out a cell phone for two weeks. I've also heard they are bad about claiming that the phones are abused and that's the reason they no longer work, but I'll see for myself what they say... At this point in time I would not recommend this phone to my worst enemy.

The phone is not mobile, makes a good landline as it needs to be constantly connected to a charger, the display is primitive with a lower resolution for a 3g phone, the 3G speed is the slowest (some 256/356kb theoretical practically it means 10-12 kbps), it has a bad speaker, both the phone as well as the loudspeaker, there is a constant buzzing , calls get disconnected, and the first few seconds of any call you cant hear a thing!!
This phone is unacceptable in any respect considering it is new (2008).They should not have released this phone in the market at all.

A Disgrace of an Excuse for a Cell Phone,

This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
Hello prospective buyer,
Let me tell you something from this first line, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! You will save yourself money, time spent with customer service trying to repair/ exchange it, and a lot of infuriating circumstances. From the standpoint of how it looks and it's functionalities, this cell phone is amazing; or that is until you start using it, then it's flaws will become apparent to you. It has the annoying custom of turning itself off by any of the following actions: -Flipping it open -Closing it -Anwsering incoming calls by pressing the call button -Making calls by pressing the call button -Dialing a number -Writing a text message -Touching any key -Doing any other action -Not doing anything at all So there you go, what a good list right? I guess it is a good thing to be able to turn the cell phone off by simply pressing any key or even by looking at it. Although that does interfere with the actual USE of the cell phone, asi it becomes impossible to make calls that work. Maybe Nokia decided to make this cellphone just for the customer to have a little brick on their person and show off how they have a pseudo-phone which can flip open and turn itself off by magic! Oh, how intelligent Nokia is. The other inmense flaw it has is the low-lasting battery power. And just to give you an insight into how much Nokia decided to test you, they made the powering up of the brick (yeah, this "thing" does not earn itself the title of cellphone) conseume around 2% to 4% of the cell phone battery. So, if you end up having the luck to make or take a call, you won;t be able to talk for long since the battery will already be depleted from turning it ON every 7 to 10 minutes. Hmmm, I wonder if I have told you this phone is bad. Hope this helps. Take care, and do not buy this cell phone if you want to live a happy life. Until next time people!!!

Horrible,

This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I've had Motorola and Samsung phones that have worked well in the past, but judging by Nokia's reputation I figured this would be a safe phone to go with. As all the other one star reviews suggest- this phone is awful.
I wanted to like it. It has several nice features such as doubling as an mp3 player and blue tooth capabilities. Unfortunately the phone has a tendency to just shut down. The phone cuts out on maybe a third of my conversations. I'll be talking along and it just loses signal. The worst part about it is that when my phone gets on a roll, it gets on a roll. It will start shutting down every 15 minutes or so. This is actually my 2nd 6555. I returned the first because it shut down and never came back on. Having this phone is socially embarrassing, but since I've sunk so much cost into the phone and accessories it is difficult to fork over the hundreds of dollars necessary to upgrade to a phone that actually works. I have a friend who also has this phone and his shuts down during text messaging. This is a horrible phone. Please do yourself a favor and get a phone that is functional. As for those of us that made the mistake of buying this one, I wish we could form some kind of class action lawsuit to get our money back.

Nokia 6555b Black,

This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
Do NOT buy this phone! I bought two, one for myself and one for my teen daughter. They turn off CONSTANTLY on their own. This is scary because my daughter may be trying to reach me and I have NO IDEA my phone is off. I am like some paranoid freak now constantly checking my phone to make sure it's on. Of course AT&T says I'm not eligible to "Updgrade" for 2 years. I just passed my first year and am thinking about paying full price for new phones... how sad! Again, do not buy this phone - for your own sanity!!!

I Hate This Phone,
This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I hate this phone.
1. Pitiful battery life. OMG, it's the worst I've seen. 2. The d@mn Push To Talk button on the outside of the case is always activating. I don't use PTT. So, when I have the phone in my jeans pocket it constantly beeps as I stand up and sit down. 3. The volume control on the outside of the case is in an awkward location. It's on the flip cover so if you're on a call and want to adjust the volume you have to contort your hand and slip the phone downwards in your palm to adjust it. All the while trying not to drop the darn thing.

HORRENDOUS Phone, BUT a fix to the random shut offs...,
This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I don't know that I need to repeat what others have already stated - the phone is absolutely horrendous. Constant dropped calls, random shut offs, bulky form factor, you name it. Nokia should be ashamed to manufacture this device and AT&T should be ashamed to market it.
BUT, I do believe that I have fixed the stupid random shut offs! The phone shuts off randomly because of the extremely poor design of the battery housing. The battery is too loose and simple actions like opening the phone - or even the vibrate feature activating - cause it to shut off. I fixed this by taking a kleenex, tearing a chunk of it out and using it to wedge the battery into place so that it wouldn't constantly slip away from the contacts. I did this two weeks ago and I haven't had a random shut down since. I'm looking forward to replacing this piece of junk soon, but until then I can at least rest easily knowing that the phone won't randomly shut down on me for no reason. Unless, of course, one counts the miniscule battery and battery meter that doesn't even get close to what's actually remaining.

Last Nokia I'll ever own,
By Old Timer (Troutdale, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I have owned several Nokias. The first I would rate first class, but things have been going downhill steadily. At first I would own nothing but a Nokia, but this is my last Nokia.
Would rate this phone a negative if I could. Nokia support has gotten terrible as well. Will keep it brief: 1) Terrible battery life. Even with the "fix" of turning off network connectivity until network connection made it's bad. I carry an extra battery. AT&T will tell you things are fine and show how to do the fix and then say you will be happy. DON'T BELIEVE THEM! 2) Backlight turns off immediately to save power. You cant even read the phone in daylight. This can't be changed. Why - to save power! 3) Abysmal screen. With backlight problem it's worse than abysmal. 4) Terrible, terrible menus. Non-intuitive, and options are hard to decode. Takes forever to get to what you want. 5) Support is horrible. Takes days to get a bad answer. 6) Lack of software other than games, themes, ringtones. So what's the benefit here? 7) Found one decent (I think) piece of software available from Nokias application software site. Purchased it, but software was not downloaded. Asked for a re-download - no answer. Tried to redownload myself - got error message. Asked for help - no answer. Loaded software from vendor. It didn't find my GPS. Found that key to software was supposed to be on invoice - it isn't. Asked for help - no response. This is my last Nokia. Bad hardware, bad software, bad support, lack of software. They've got all bases covered - it just that they're all now bad. How can a company go from the best to the worst in such a short time?

Worst Nokia Ever!,
By Jerry Noblin (Shelbyville, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nokia 6555 Red Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
My wife and I both got the Nokia 6555 when we switched to ATT. Both phones have had miserable battery life and various other problems. My phone's screen started to scramble and the response to key's being pressed would exhibit delays up to 10 sec. The warranty replacement is better but still has poor sound quality and a horrible display.
My wife's phone died totally (just out of warranty of course) and both phones have had to have the batteries and chargers replaced (not covered by warranty of course). I would never recommend this phone to anyone! Please, do not buy this phone! |
