I Actually HATE it,
By
This review is from: Sierra Wireless 598U USB Modem (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
If I didn't have a contract, I'd cancel and find another way to get internet service. I really, really HATE this broadband service. I like in a city so there is not reason for the terrible service I get. Level of connection is given in percentages: 0, 10, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100. The only place I've ever gotten 100 was in an airport. At my house, it's frequently at 0 or 10, most commonly at 40. At 40, you can't watch video. YOu have to have at least 60 for that, which I rarely get. I called Sprint and someone actually told me that they can't guarantee service inside. Where the hell else am I going to use the internet? On my roof? My contract is up next year (I think) and, after 5 years with Sprint, I am going to change providers. I want to have an internet connection that works consistently in my house. And if they sent me - and countless others - a product that they cannot guarantee will work in the place that most people use it, then I am finished with Sprint.

A RIP OFF,
By Crisco931 (Santa Barbara CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sierra Wireless 598U USB Modem (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
The Sierra Wireless Card is flimsy and has defects. There is some glitch that when it updates its software, it kills the
wireless unit. I've had 4 of these replaced now. The biggest Rip off of all is that Sprint Warehouse says its doesnt receive them back and sprint charges you $100 after 15 Days!! This time I mailed it back with postal certification to prove it was received by them. Sprint Customer service says they acknowledge theres a problem but they have to just send the information higher into their management chain. I also had a sprint Lotus phone widely known for being defective and yet Sprint still sells them to this day. Sprint has ripped me off. Bottom line. Im posting this as a warning to others. Avoid Sprint.

Absolutely Flawless performance,

I don't know what the previous reviewers expectations are - but the device will only work as well as the service connection for your area. I live in an area where we had only dial up or satellite for internet available to us until this - and let me tell you, the blazing speeds I get with this (comparatively) make it well worth it to me! In a rural area, (I think within about a mile of the tower) I get consistently 2mb+ coverage. It works perfectly - runs probably easily 12 hours/day, and I've had it for 10 months. The only time it has gone down, everything in my area is down - including landline and cell phones! Actually, that happened a couple days before Thanksgiving - everything was down, but my Sierra wireless was still delivering dial up speed connection.

Nice phone...for as long as it works...which is not long!,
By Concerned Citizen (Miami FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nokia 7510 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
The elegant design, metallic case, quality display, overall operability of the phone's standard communications and convenience features, and even an amazingly clear built-in speaker, should please any user not inclined toward heavy text-messaging or web-surfing. And all of this pleased me until my phone stopped working after 2 months. (Instead of starting up, it just began flashing a white screen for a few seconds.) Got a replacement, and 2 months later, that phone died an identical death. Ordered a new replacement, as this was mandatory given my mobile service agreement, and in 2 more months, I'll get back with you...
Getting back with you. Phone just broke again (same problem), although this time, it lasted an amazing 4 months! Worse news is, T-Mobile is forcing me to take a fourth one, before I can upgrade to something that may actually endure for awhile. My fifth replacement phone is on the way...Can't wait!!

Great Phone,

This review is from: Nokia 7510 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
I purchased this phone about a month and a half ago, to replace a Nokia 6263 that actually still worked very well for me, but I just wanted to try the Wifi features on this phone.
I must say that overall I am very pleased with the phone, but the wifi is not as strong as I had hoped it would be. Sometimes it has trouble connecting in areas I know a decent signal is present (like on my college campus), and unfortunately, the wifi DRAINS the battery. If I have the wifi turned on, my battery will barely last a day before it's completely dead, sometimes not even that long. If I keep the wifi shut off, the battery life almost triples. I am fortunate that I live in an area where the wifi is not a necessary feature to use the phone in my home, so I keep it turned off most of the time, though I sometimes turn it on if I am trying to use the phone inside my college campus building, which seems to kill cell phone signals for some reason (have 4 bars outside the building). Even with the wifi feature turned off, this phone does get very good service in all of the places my 6263 did, and I rarely have a serious issue with dead spots other than when I am in some rather rural areas where no service has yet penetrated the airways, or inside most of my college campus' buildings which seem to block the T-Mobile signal (again 4 bars immediately outside the building). The phone I received came with a 2.5 mm stereo headset, which have adequate sound quality, but I don't like that the left ear wire is about 1/3 the length of the wire for the right, which can cause issues wearing the headset. I would imagine that like the nokia 6263, you could get an adapter and just use a regular set of headphones, but I have not tried this yet. The phone does have a media player built in, but it is not as easy to access on this phone as it is on some of Nokia's other phones (think 5300 series or the 6263). But it does play nicely. I have a 4 GB memory card in the phone and it has no trouble reading or accessing anything on the card. This phone can use your MP3 files as ringtones either off of the Micro SD card, or stored in the phone itself, though I do suggest using an Micro SD card since internal memory on the phone is somewhat limited (it's less than the 30 MB that came on the 6263, but I don't remember the exact amount). The main reason I have not tried to use a regular headphone on this handset is because I mainly use my headset when I am listening to the music player, and there are no external music buttons on the phone, so you have to flip the phone open to skip songs. The headset that comes with the phone has a single button on it that allows you to do this without opening the phone, and this also lets you answer and hang up incoming calls, something that you would also be unable to do with a standard wired handset. I also own a stereo bluetooth and it works very well with this phone, and I would say that is probably the best option if you plan to use the music player on this phone, since (at least my bluetooth) can control the media player from it, without handling the phone, and you can make and receive calls using only it. This review was much longer than I intended it to be, but I wanted to be fair and honest in my evaluation. This phone is actually better than I thought it would be initially, and I enjoy using it, and despite the wifi shortcomings, it is a great phone, and in all honesty, the wifi shortcomings aren't that bad, I just keep that feature turned off unless I am in an area where it is needed.

Wow,
This review is from: Nokia 7510 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
I've owned cell phones since they first arrived on the market. In fact, my very first cell phone was a Nokia. This might be the best phone I've ever owned. It might be a little "industrial" for some folks; I love that about it. Sturdy and feels like quality. If you are looking for a sleek, slim, light-as-a-feather phone, you probably will not like this one. If you want a phone like feels like it might work as a weapon, and has some awesome features for the price, this is for you!!
I was a die-hard Blackberry fan for years but the BB plans just got too expensive for me (sudden change in financial situation). Features I like the most: The interface on this phone is awesome, and you have several ways to customize that. I like the overall size of the phone. It has an FM radio....I've been wanting that on a phone forever! It takes a micro SD card. It syncs with my laptop just like a Blackberry, using Nokia PC Suite (free download) so I can use Outlook with it. It has Wi-fi, and switches phone usage back and forth from air to wi-fi depending on what is available!! How cool is that?? It has Bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera, takes video....both of which I have yet to explore much. The media player has awesome sound just through the phone speaker!! I wasn't expecting much from email after owning a BBerry, but this is fine for me. Setup was non-existant. Somehow it set up itself. I had trouble finding the speakerphone feature; To use the speakerphone while on an active call, press the Right Soft key to select Loudspeaker. I have only owned this phone for a day, but I put it through it's paces pretty well so far. Amazon has it on sale right now with a T-mobile plan for free, plus you get a $50 rebate back!! They pay you to take it!! For that kind of money, this is an awesome phone. It does not come with a needed micro-usb (not mini-usb) cable for syncing with a PC. That is about the only thing I don't like about this phone. Cheers

I have this card and it works OK. The service where I am in Tucson gives me about 40 to 60 percent. I did buy a antennae from [...] and it works awesome with this card. Its a Booster Antenna w/cables for Sierra Aircard 598U. I get 80 - 100 percent with the antenna plugged in.

3.5 stars,
By Perksy (Midwest, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nokia 7510 Phone (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
I gave this 3.5 stars because changing the phone covers can be a drag! I had to go to T-Mobile foe help. I don't any longer have problems with the back cover, but had the toughest time being ginger with the front cover in order to not break the top part of the phone. Then, when trying to put on a new cover, it would not go on all the way, so have to tape it a bit to keep it down. Then, one of the "tooth" on the front cover broke. So, I just been not having a front cover on my phone for a couple months now. I have been having this phone since March '09.
Also, sometimes the video clips are not the greatest. It does not come out too hot as far as the graphics go. But sometimes it comes out not too bad. And you only get 53 seconds worth of recording time. Now, on to the good points. I don't use Wi-Fi, so I have no opinion either way. As for the camera part, it's not too bad. For the most part it is sweet. You don't have to stop at color photos. But you can use sepia, grayscale ( B&W), false colors, solarized, and negatives. It comes with 3 flash options, or simply don't use the flash. Depends on where you are at, sometimes it can take awesome after dark photos, even in grayscale. Say, if you are around some kind of street light, or the right kind of light coming from buildings, or something. It will make you ditch your film camera, and it does come with zooming, so, unlike regular film cameras, you don't have to get closer or farther necessary. You can zoom in or zoom out. But the zoom is not an option if you choose to take a "standard photo". And you can PRINT the photos like you would any digital camera. To those who are NEW to digital cameras ( and I was when I got this phone), do beware it take so many seconds to minutes before you see how accuarate the photo came out. It will look grainy at first...And also know that the picture WILL shift some as it is saving....You will LOOOOVE the viewfinder, but do know taking photos out on a sunny day can be rather difficult because it's hard to see in the viewfinder in the sunshine, and my eyes are pretty good vision wise. There is an option to rotate the photos. The radio is awesome for the FM ( but, shoot, AM is not best of quality regardless of where you at and even at an in-home big stereo...) but you NEED headphones for the phone because the wires act as an atennae. And simply won't play without one. But the phone DOES come with headphones, so that's cool. It comes with more than one profiles for if you want to set the ringer to OUTDOOR, NORMAL, SILENT, and also has a setting for if you are on flight. The COOLEST thing to me about selecting a ringtone is that one of the alert tones is a doorbell! It does come with stopwatch if you desire that feature. It also comes with sending post cards, but you can only send post cards to those whose phones can receive them. I have not tried to send one, so I don't know how that feature works out as to what it looks like when you send them and stuff. The voice recorder is awesome! You get two hours worth of recording time per clip, but you may not want to use that much time without making sure you got enough memory. Oh, a word of knowledge: If you get this phone, and it blanks out on you, chances are it means your memory card is too full, and to delete or get a new one. Sorry if I wrote too much, but want to do my share of informing here for those who like a thorough review before getting something, if they want a detailed reason on why something is good or not. Thank you to those who read this! :)

I rather like this phone. The internal screen is very impressive. However, the phone's reception is not that good. I've tested 2 different T-Mobile phones in the same area, and this phone has the worse reception. The phone is very good-looking. It doesn't look durable, though. The keys don't feel comfortable if you text a lot. They are not very responsive so you can't type very fast.

I've used one of these for about 6 months. Its not as fast as they make it about to be...or so I thought. For the past 6 months i used it in airports, hotels etc and its definitely not high speed. At times it seemed like a fast dial up service (does anyone remember those days). However last week I treated myself to an iPad and bought a cradlepoint portable router (PHS 300). A great little device that allowed me to attach the 598U so that I wouldn't have to fork over another $30 to AT&T. The speed has tripled since setting it up through the cradlepoint device, not just for the ipad but for my laptop!
So if you want to see any decent speed you will have to spend another $100+. Best news, I was able to get the wifi Ipad, which saved me $130 on that |
