Amazon.com Product Description

At first glance, it's a candybar-style phone, but the top flips up to reveal a widescreen LCD and full QWERTY keyboard. Perfect for frequent travelers, it provides quad-mode global GSM connectivity so you can stay in touch wherever you roam. It also offers Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g) for accessing open networks at home or on the road at hotspots as well as compatibility with 2100 MHz 3G networks (in Europe and Asia).

Locate meeting venues, restaurants, and places of interest with the integrated GPS, and increase mobile productivity with applications for browsing and editing documents. Other features include a 3.2-megapixel digital camera with flash, a secondary QCIF camera for video calling, Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets, 128 MB of onboard memory, MicroSD expansion, FM radio, digital audio player, Symbian OS, and up to 5.8 hours of GSM talk time.

At first glance, the Nokia E90 has a candybar form factor, but it opens up to reveal much more under the hood.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider. This phone comes with a one-year warranty from a third party provider.

When paired with a compatible 3G network that uses WCDMA 2100 MHz connectivity (such as in in Europe and Asia), you'll enjoy a high-speed connection offering a variety of feature-rich wireless services--from data connectivity to your office to multimedia streaming, and take advantage of simultaneous voice and data services. In the United States and foreign territories where 2100 MHz 3G networks are not available, you'll continue to receive data service via EDGE network (depending on network compatibility).

Phone Features
The top of the phone has a standard numeric keypad, navigation pad, soft keys, and 2-inch color LCD (with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution). The internal screen has an 800 x 352-pixel resolution--capable of displaying the full width of a web page at once--and both displays produce brilliant imagery thanks to support for 16 million colors. A QCIF camera sits at the top left corner of the internal screen for video calls, while a lens on the back of the device captures still images up to 3.2 megapixels in size. Camera functions include an LED flash, red-eye reduction, and self-timer. You can also record video at up to VGA resolution and 30 frames per second. The E90 also has an integrated GPS and Nokia Maps application to provide help in finding routes and locating services.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the E90, thanks to its EDGE data connectivity (and compatibility with 2100 MHz 3G networks). The integrated Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g) enables you to make VoIP phone calls over an open network, and it offers a variety of security settings (WPA2-Enterprise, WPA2-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, WPA-Personal). When used with a carrier data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can also be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.

The E90's innovative built-in browser, one of many enhancements included with the device's Symbian operating system--known as Series 60 9.1 Version 3--offers full HTML viewing as well as support for page zooming, CSS, JavaScript and other technologies that will bring you very close to a desktop PC browsing experience.

The full QWERTY keyboard and widescreen LCD makes it easy to view full Web pages and edit documents.
The E90 supports PC synchronization standards via USB or Bluetooth, which means you can manage and synchronize contacts, calendars and other data with your PC. Nokia's PC Suite application makes this process a breeze. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the device, including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, and an alarm clock. Productivity tools bundled with the E61i include a word processor, a presentation viewer/editor, a spreadsheet viewer/editor, PDF viewer, and a zip file manager. The office applications are compatible with the most common features of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (MS Office 97 or later). Robust contact and calendar applications are also included.

With support for the MMS (multimedia messaging service), the E90 can send picture, video and text messages. Instant messaging is also supported, and the phone ships with a built-in email client that supports POP3, IMAP, and SMTP protocols, as well as Microsoft Office-based email attachments. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not good for emails., October 30, 2007
By
The phone is good for documents, pictures, videos, web surfing, and all the main functions that don't require a internet connection. If you rely heavily on email then I would suggest the blackberrys instead. The email settings on the E90 is poor, you can only set it to recieve every 30 mins or might have to sync it manually. Over all phone rating is a 8/10 and the email software is a 1/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone..., February 15, 2008
My only complaint is that I haven't been able to get the VOIP features working yet, but I'm pretty sure that's my fault, not the fault of the E90. Voice quality is great on T-Mobile, and (contrary to the complaint of the previous reviewer) email works great and can be synchronized down to every five minutes. I use both the regular email for my GMail account and the blackberry connect software for my corporate account, and they work without fail.

Battery life is better than I expected, and usability is excellent. One problem is the phone's size... it's a little bit of a brick, but you can't have this much convergence without a small sacrifice of size. It's much smaller and lighter than the previous combination of iPod Nano/cell phone/laptop that it replaced.

4.0 out of 5 stars love it, July 8, 2008
My reason for buying the Nokia E90 was to combine a cellphone and my Palm Zire 72 organizer into one unit. I had a pretty good idea going in what I was looking for in a smartphone; full qwerty keyboard with independent number keys (easier to read), easy to read screen, able to fit in my pocket if necessary. Most of the devices oferred by the major cell service providers had numerous fatal flaws. Some were too wide to be held in the hand comfortably as a phone or fit in my pocket, some had keyboards that were too hard to read and too cramped. And being a mac guy I was not at all sold on windows mobile.

After looking at dozens of phones and hundreds of reviews I ended up with the Nokia and I have no regrets at all. I won't go into technical specs that are better reviewed by experts, but I will mention a few nice features. One of the things that surprises me most about this device is the degree to which it is customizable. For example, go to "profiles" and you can select the outdoor setting to get a loud ring and vibrate. Select the meeting setting to get a single beep. No more scrolling from loud ring to silent while everybody can hear you. All of the profile setting are completely customizable. I also like the fact that the device can lay flat with the screen tilting up allowing you to use fingers (if you're at your desk) or the screen can lay flat allowing the use of thumbs if you are standing. A few more nice surprises: when the alarm sounds, it starts softly and gradually increases in volume; in calendar it automatically makes the next letter a capital after a period; it's possible to check your email with one hand using the front screen only.

Pros -
stunning screen
great video quality
lots of memory
very high build quality
big "wow" factor
adjustable angle screen
spacious keyboard
packed with features
very clear call quality

Cons -
no google maps.
needs a backlight that is brighter.
price
would like more "click" feel in keyboard
no touchscreen (not a major issue)
a navigation key on the inside keyboard that has more of an "edge" to it
better battery life indicator (Shows 5 bars - turn it off, and immediately back on again and it's down to 2 bars)
