I will inevitably compare the N90 helmet to Nolan's other modular helmet, N103, it being my first choice, and also popular enough so that readers probably had a chance to see one and have a base for comparison, and my open-face HJC IS-33.

Choosing a helmet took me several weeks, and multiple trips to several local stores which carried different brands. My old helmet was a open-face HJC IS-33, with internal sun visor. My head shape is slightly narrow and the rather round IS-33 was a bad fit. After trying on probably 50 different Scorpion, HJC, Shark, Arai, Shoei and a few other brand helmets, I narrowed (pun intended) my choices down to Arai Profile and Nolan N103 (N90 was not available at the time). After ordering a N103 from Extreme Supply and waiting for 10 days for them to ship the helmet, I finally gave up and canceled the order. By that time, N90 was just being shipped to USA. I was not able to find any information on N90 other than Web Bike World's review (a very nice review BTW, but the editors couldn't remember how N90 compared to N103 in terms of shape and fit), so I gave Nolan USA a call and asked them. According to the Nolan rep, the internal shape and fit of N90 is identical to that of N103, and now after receiving the helmet, I will agree with that. So here are my observations:

- The paint and finish is excellent. Mine is platinum silver color, and the high quality is apparent. The fit is slightly narrow, which fits me perfectly; not as narrow as Arai Profile, but definitely narrower than any HJC I tried. BTW Web Bike World's review calls it slight round, but I will disagree with that.

- The visor is excellent. First time I put the helmet, I thought I forgot to close it down, the view is that clear and undistorted. The visor fogs quickly, however.

The helmet fits my head very tightly (and I got the 2XL), but is comfortable. It breathes very well and does not make a sweaty mess of my head even in Austin's 100F+ summers. It does have more wind noise than my HJC, but it's worth it for the better ventilation. The buttons for opening the front of the helmet allow one to open it without shifting it on the head.

I had a Nolan N102 that was long in the tooth and needed replacement. One thing I didn't like is that the N-102 was so close to my chin that I had to cut away some of the protective foam to make a place for the microphone so I could use the CB on My Goldwing. I like the Nolan helmets and had read that the N-90 had more chin room and after reviewing the features I wanted, I ordered it. I've been using it for about a week now and the fit is great. The front closes and opens without having to bang it because my big fat head is in the way. It's snug on my head and the sun visor goes up and down with no problem at all, even over my prescription glasses. I just installed the J&M Elite 629 N-COM Compatible communications headset and that also was very easy.

All and all I have to say that for the price I paid, this is a very good investment. Yes Nolan is a bit more expensive than some of the other brands, but with the chinstrap ratcheting lock and all the other features, I'm sure this will last me another 5 years like the N-102 did.
Bottom line is... how much is your head worth?

I purchased this helmet after reading a review at webBikeworld and revzilla. I also saw many user reviews on the revzilla site. The helmet was very highly rated, especially for the price.

After receiving the helmet the first thing that I noticed was that it was much more comfortable than the Bilt helmet and the Vega with which I had to compare. This version also has the pinlock anti fog system that works very nicely. Other features include modular design, drop down sun shade, and space for communications to be added. I am very happy with this purchase and highly recommend this helmet.

Be aware that there is also a N90S model which does not include the pinlock anti fog shield.

I highly suggest checking out the other reviews. Here are a few of them.

Love this helmet. Things I really like about it. Center visor lift allows both hands to lift visor. Sun shield is a must and it is good quality so you don't go batty looking through it. Modular is the only way to go. Quick release visor is truly quick release. The pinlock insert works great and is easy to install. The quick release strap is a must. The only down side is the air flow could be better and chin vents a little easier to operate.

The finish of the helmet is great! The Lava Gray is a little bit shiny and I was looking for some flat black color or something similar but I like it a lot! Comes with the anti-fog and a bag for the Nolan. This is my second Nolan and I'm happy with the results. Saturday or sunday I'll go on the road to see how it works.

This is the third Nolan flip up style helmet I've purchased over the past 12 years. As of this writing I've only used it for a total of 4 rides on my motorcycle, the longest ride being approximately 3 hours. So I have limited experience and use with it. Having said that...so far I really like it!
Big improvement over the previous two models (I still have and use on my ATV's) is the ventilation system. The top of the helmet has dual independent pop-up air scoops that work well. Unlike my previous two Nolan's, I actually feel air flow at the top of my head when they are open! Then there are two more similar style vents in the chin guard that apparently seem to work better than the previous models as well. I was able to ride with the face shield all the way down on a cool 50 degree ride, and with the front vents open no fog managed to accumulate on the inside of the shield. Definitely better "defrost" characteristics than the previous N102 model.
I am a big advocate of the flip-up style helmets. They allow you to easily eat a snack, or drink some water, or communicate with a passenger without trying to "yell" through the chin guard while on a ride. Simply flip up the front easily with one hand while driving along. Then if and when you've had enough of the wind in your face, you can easily flip it back down using your hand, or a quick nod of your head and it pops down and automatically locks in places...hands free!!!
My opinion of the fit is...the Nolan's always seem to fit a little too tight for my personal preference. My head fits in most hats labeled XL. My Nolan is a XXL, and it is borderline too tight for my liking. Having said that, it did not cause excessive discomfort during that 3 hour ride.
