Choosing a helmet took me several weeks, and multiple trips to several local stores which carried different brands. My old helmet was a open-face HJC IS-33, with internal sun visor. My head shape is slightly narrow and the rather round IS-33 was a bad fit. After trying on probably 50 different Scorpion, HJC, Shark, Arai, Shoei and a few other brand helmets, I narrowed (pun intended) my choices down to Arai Profile and Nolan N103 (N90 was not available at the time). After ordering a N103 from Extreme Supply and waiting for 10 days for them to ship the helmet, I finally gave up and canceled the order. By that time, N90 was just being shipped to USA. I was not able to find any information on N90 other than Web Bike World's review (a very nice review BTW, but the editors couldn't remember how N90 compared to N103 in terms of shape and fit), so I gave Nolan USA a call and asked them. According to the Nolan rep, the internal shape and fit of N90 is identical to that of N103, and now after receiving the helmet, I will agree with that. So here are my observations:
- The paint and finish is excellent. Mine is platinum silver color, and the high quality is apparent. The fit is slightly narrow, which fits me perfectly; not as narrow as Arai Profile, but definitely narrower than any HJC I tried. BTW Web Bike World's review calls it slight round, but I will disagree with that.
- The visor is excellent. First time I put the helmet, I thought I forgot to close it down, the view is that clear and undistorted. The visor fogs quickly, however.Read more ›
All and all I have to say that for the price I paid, this is a very good investment. Yes Nolan is a bit more expensive than some of the other brands, but with the chinstrap ratcheting lock and all the other features, I'm sure this will last me another 5 years like the N-102 did.
Bottom line is... how much is your head worth?
After receiving the helmet the first thing that I noticed was that it was much more comfortable than the Bilt helmet and the Vega with which I had to compare. This version also has the pinlock anti fog system that works very nicely. Other features include modular design, drop down sun shade, and space for communications to be added. I am very happy with this purchase and highly recommend this helmet.
Be aware that there is also a N90S model which does not include the pinlock anti fog shield.
I highly suggest checking out the other reviews. Here are a few of them.
Big improvement over the previous two models (I still have and use on my ATV's) is the ventilation system. The top of the helmet has dual independent pop-up air scoops that work well. Unlike my previous two Nolan's, I actually feel air flow at the top of my head when they are open! Then there are two more similar style vents in the chin guard that apparently seem to work better than the previous models as well. I was able to ride with the face shield all the way down on a cool 50 degree ride, and with the front vents open no fog managed to accumulate on the inside of the shield. Definitely better "defrost" characteristics than the previous N102 model.
I am a big advocate of the flip-up style helmets. They allow you to easily eat a snack, or drink some water, or communicate with a passenger without trying to "yell" through the chin guard while on a ride. Simply flip up the front easily with one hand while driving along. Then if and when you've had enough of the wind in your face, you can easily flip it back down using your hand, or a quick nod of your head and it pops down and automatically locks in places...hands free!!!
My opinion of the fit is...the Nolan's always seem to fit a little too tight for my personal preference. My head fits in most hats labeled XL. My Nolan is a XXL, and it is borderline too tight for my liking. Having said that, it did not cause excessive discomfort during that 3 hour ride.Read more ›

Great helmet. Only gripe I ever had was it is a bit heavy and bulky but comfortable. I just had a high speed accident with it and it saved me. Would definitely by it again......Published 9 months ago by Mike
