Book Description

Everyone needs a will sooner rather than later -- and Nolo's Simple Will Book is the all-in-one tool you need. For over 15 years, this bestseller had made it easy to:

  • write a legally valid will
  • leave property to family, friends or organizations
  • name a personal guardian to care for your children
  • safely leave property to young children
  • arrange for the payment of debts and taxes
  • name an executor to handle your affairs
  • update your will as needed

Nolo's Simple Will Book lets you choose from seven different will forms, or builds you a custom will to suit special situations. It also provides a detailed discussion of estate planning for those who may want more than a will.

Completely updated and revised, the 7th edition provides all worksheets and will forms on CD-ROM. It also includes new information on "ethical wills," which let you convey your feelings and values to loved ones. Good in all states except Louisiana. (20080202)

    Editorial Reviews

    From Library Journal

This book will enable most people to write their wills, valid in any state except Louisiana. Clifford, a lawyer, explains the importance of having a will and discusses relevant considerations such as executors, beneficiaries, treatment of children, and property ownership laws. There is also some coverage of basic estate planning, utilization of lawyers, and requirements for executing a valid will. Throughout, Clifford flags complex situations in which legal advice should be obtained. To some extent this is a workbook, with fill-in-the-blank, perforated pages. If it can be kept intact, it is an excellent source for public libraries. Jack Ray, Loyola/Notre Dame Lib., Baltimore

This book shows how easy it is to write your own will. Unless your situation is complex, you will find there is no need to hire a lawyer. The author assures you that if you follow directions, the will is valid and will be duly executed when the time comes. Be sure to read the text, as it offer good guidance. Resist the temptation to jump directly to filling out one of the many sample wills provided.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book and forms on CD, January 4, 2005
This book comes with a CD containing both a simple will form and mix and match clause forms for more complex wills. All forms are in Rich Text Format files; open the files, cut and paste their text into your own file, and replace the blanks with your own text. Print and you're done. All that's left is the really hard part: making decisions about how to satisfy your obligations and dispose of your estate.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A great buy!, May 18, 2004
    By A Customer
I had no idea that writing a will could be so easy! I was convinced that only lawyers could draft wills and if a friend hadn't suggested this book I would have wasted a lot of money on legal fees. Nolo's Simple Will Book translates all of the legal jargon that lawyers love into plain, easy to understand english. I was able to leave property to my brother, create a trust for my children, and name an executor to handle my affairs. The CD-ROM even gives you the legal forms you'll need in a user-friendly format. Thanks to this book, drafting my will was easier, faster, less stressful, and (best of all) cheaper then I ever imagined.
