5.0 out of 5 stars A great musician and inspiring music, April 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Nomade: Arabian Music (Audio CD)
Hussein El Masry's music is both amazing and ultimately relaxing. It takes you on a journey far away with the dark tones of the oud and the crisp sound of the Indian tabla. Hussein is generally known in his homeland Egypt as a top performer of belly dance music. The music on this CD is completely different from his usual repertoire. It is wonderful and atmospheric music for the small hours of night when the lights are low and everything becomes quiet. The idea behind the title of this CD is that every musician is a nomad whose notes wander with the wind only to rest in the hearts of those who listen. A motto which induces you to become deeply philosophical and let your mind wander off in the darkness to far away places. The only criticism I have are the song titles on the back of the booklet. The song titles in Latin writing are almost impossible to read as they are in very small red print on a structured green background. I myself can read Arabic fairly easily, but those who are not familiar with Arabic writing will find it difficult to decipher at first. Even if you have never heard Arabian music before this will be a revelation. It is also especially for those who still have a prejudice against Arabian music because they think it is "whining". None of it on this CD ! This deserves a 5-star recommendation !
