is an apt description for a CD that is all over the place in it's musical style...but it's a wonderful journey. Adriana is adventurous and I like that in an era of singers that are so generic, you don't know who's who on your radio. I love her voice and how it doesn't necessarily sound the same on any one song. She goes from the free and easy stylings of "Remember the Love" to the hefty, strong vocal of "7 Days." I love an artist who takes chances. With this CD, her second, she did just that. I give her the five stars for originality and daring, especially after going seven years between the first and second CD. A very nice sophomore effort.

I loved Adriana Evans' first album and I love this one. There are so many different styles on this album. I like how she doesn't conform to one style. My favorite songs are "Remember the Love" and "Seven Days".

Good album. But....at times, it can be boring.,

After seven long years, Nomadic is not what i expected from her. Although it does has a smattering of elements from her first album, there are quite a few surprises that has either moved the "airy'nesense" of my moods or placed me in a state of flatlined boredom.
From the moment the intro drops, I had already started to feel a sense of contrived attributes in the album. Adriana holds a mock interview with an unnamed person talking about the different kinds of music she grew up with. **************************************************************** Dude: so what kind of music you grew up listening to? Adriana: oh i listen to everything. like rock, soul, afro-cuban salsa, brazilian samba... Dude: WORD? Adriana: yeah i mean its was just all in my house just everywhere you look there was music ya know, um Dude: all that stuff just kinda, kinda comes out when you do... Adriana: oh yeah im good to do like a afro latin rock song you know? Dude: WORD!? Adriana: its just...just....you know its its all the same thing to me Dude: THAT'S INCREDIBLE! **************************************************************** DUDE! ...SHUT UP! i literally wanted to reach through the earbuds on my i-pod and strangle the guy who was on embellishment overkill with the "word?" and the "that's incredible" comments. nevertheless, the album rolls on along into the second track.... - Remember Love: This song opens the album with a nice piece of music with a tropical island twist that is refreshing, sweet and blissful. - Through His Eyes: Another airy piece of music that keeps the pace of the mood where the prior left off. Good song. - In Search of: A decent song, but repetitive and not very inspiring. Boring, if you will. - What It Is: This track is reminiscent of 70's bluesy/funk/rock music. A good sound but somewhat misplaced in the scheme of the airy mood the album started me off with. - Something: Another bluesy, funk track that can be addictive and infectious after a few rotations in the car with the volume in high decibels. - I Had A Dream: The music is great, but the song itself sounds like filler. - Midnight In Bahia: I like the haunting mood this track has attached to it. But Adriana hits writers block with this song. More filler. - 7 Days: This is a GREAT, great track right here. Once again, it's reminiscent of 70's Rock/funk band WAR. Definately worth rotating on repeat while driving at high velocity at 2am on the highway. - Morning Light: This is a nice song by Adriana. Pretty piano playing, but sounds constricted to one pattern of melody. - I Hear Music: The music on this song brings the mood back to where the album initially started you off with. Airy, heartfelt 'sunny' feelings. But again, Adriana hits writers block on this track. - Rollin' On: What I love about this song is Adriana's opinion on the current state of music as well as her passion to continue making what she feels is music in it's true essence. Good song. - Former Self: This is another great song by Adriana. Far more inspirational than 'In Search Of'. And I like the reggae elements in the music. This was a good song to end the album with. Overall, Nomadic is the kind of album you would want to take with you to the Bahamas, on a cruise or maybe to the beach on a sunny, warm day. The album is filled with various musical elements from the islands along with a few moments of edgy funk and bluesy sounds as well. So altogether it has a nice blend of everything. The only real problem i have with the album is the limited range the music doesn't overcome. Although, I enjoy much of the music on the album.... one would think that if an artist spent so much of their time during their hiatus in different countries, soaking up different sounds and moods in music...they would return to songwriting with more of an eclectic, instrumental and "inprovisonational" range in their music. I also would have loved to hear Adriana with other producers aside from dredd scott. He's a good beat maker and producer. But to hear the true nature of Adriana's voice, I think the matching of her talents laced alongside those of different producers will showcase her as being more than what she appears to be and sounds. Otherwise, the album is a very good follow up to her first. But do not expect a part 2 of her debut album, in Nomadic. The edgier music will throw you for a loop if you ride your expectations on what you know of Adriana from the first album. So you will have to dumb down those expectations and keep an extremely open ear to Nomadic. If you can do that, then i recommend that you do not pass this gem up.

It gets better with time,
By
This review is from: Nomadic (Audio CD)
For many years after Adriana's debut album, I waited and waited for her follow up. Finally, Nomadic was released. I had to look all over the city to find a copy, but with some extensive research I located it. Because I wanted to enjoy the experience, I waited until I got home to listen to it. After listening to the entire cd, my feelings were mixed. I was somewhat expecting to hear songs that sounded like "Love Is All Around", "Seein Is Believin", "In The Sun", etc., but I got something altogether different. Adriana takes a chance on arrangements, tempo's, genre's, but her voice is as beautiful and touching as ever. She is one of the few artist that can make a record that you can listen to from start to finish. I love the whole cd, but "Remember The Love" is so catchy, it is definitely my favorite. I recommend this cd to anyone, and thanks to that show Noah's Ark, more people have been given some exposure to her. If you are like me, and have been a fan for the last 10 years, or if you are new to discover her, you realize that her music takes you to another place, and only gets better with time. And for those of you that have mixed feelings about cd, listen to it again, and I guarantee you will rediscover the magic about this young woman.

Great Work!,

This review is from: Nomadic (Audio CD)
In my opinion this is a great 2nd cd. Totally different than the first which is a great sign of a true artist. I am surprised by the # of people who don't like it because it is totally different than the first. I say this to people often...stop comparing! I have even done this myself which is not good. When you compare to the last body of work it does not open your mind up to where you are thinking about the current project and what they are trying to say and do. Great work Adriana!! Hope you are reading!

Nomadic,

I was fortunate to finally get my hands on a copy of this disc after searching high and low throughout Philly! For those who have Adriana's debut disc, this one is a departure in sound from the mostly acid jazz sound and features music that is representative of her journey throughout Brazil - the sounds are more Afro-Cubano mixed with a little r&b, reggae & on a couple songs, funk!
What I hear is an artist who stretched her wings and took music fans on a ride with her to the place that so obviously had a positive impact on her creatively. Her beautiful voice is the same but on this disc, she took a lot of risks with the music that for me, as a fan paid off - this is a really good collection of songs that shows a lot of growth in Adriana as an artist, songwriter & vocalist. My standout tracks are: I HAD A DREAM - trippy, very melodic beats REMEMBER THE LOVE (SAMBA SOUL MIX) - the title says it all, this is a great song that successfully mixed elements of samba & soul along with Adriana's excellent vocals IN SEARCH OF - starts off really spare with just her voice, a guitar & drums then moves into a funkier breakdown midway through that features electric guitars, organ and drums MIDNIGHT IN BAHIA - although the lyrics are a tad monotonous, there is something about the melody & beat of this song that drew me in and kept me listening 7 DAYS - highlight of the disc, this track is pure funk! I can't believe that I just saw the video for this song in 2006! Adriana managed to convey the right amount of vocal agility in this song without screaming or going off key with the angrier passages MORNING LIGHT - beautiful song that really showcases her voice I was really sad to see that so many previous reviewers disliked this disc in comparison to her debut but frankly the sound IS different but the artist is the same. I'd recommend this disc to Adriana's fans who love her voice and are curious about her sophomore effort but be prepared to accept a different sound than what you heard on the debut.

after Adriana's first cd, i became a big fan. Adriana was "neo-soul" before there was a such thing as "neo-soul". a brother couldnt wait for her second cd....so after a long hiatus, Adriana returns with Nomadic. this cd is a disappointment for me.
i know artist need to branch out and do other things but this time, it didnt work. of the tracks, there are only 2 or 3 that i really like. i still love Adriana's voice because she has one of the better voices in music but im just not feeling this cd.

I DON'T KNOW!!!!,

This review is from: Nomadic (Audio CD)
I absolutely loved Adriana's first CD. She was much more upbeat and positive. On this CD, I'm very undecided. There are only a couple of songs on there that really interested me. I was trying to figure out where she was going with this CD. I can understand that she had spent time in Brazil and that is reflected in this latest CD but, she just kills ya with it!!!!! I don't really view this as a Neo-Soul CD. That's the problem, these artists are not staying true to the art. Alot of people really aren't too familiar with Adrianna and for this reason, she should'nt have strayed from the formula.

This is a great album. I have been an Adriana Evans fan since 98 when her first album came out. You can tell she comes from a strong musicly rich background. The Jazz and Latin-Jazz grooves of this album set it apart from her other projects. All in all, an excellent product.
