If you're a true IG fan, you know that this is the most unappreciated collection of songs ever put together. Alternating between Amy's intense and primal vocals and Emily's sweet sounding melodies, "Nomads" has it all. It's an album to be listened to in its entirety, like "Being There" by Wilco or like "Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" by the Black Crowes...a unit that exceeds its individual parts when you look at it as a whole. "Watershed", "World Falls", "Pushing the Needle Too Far", "Welcome Me", "Hand Me Downs"... in a better world, these would be radio singles, not just obscurities for die hard fans... This album is pure poetry and if you don't believe it, just take out the liner notes and read for yourself...

Passionate lyrics and clear, sweet harmonies. The Indigo Girls combine wistful vignettes ("Watershed") and soulful ballads ("The Girl with the Weight of the World in her Hands") with raw, angry anthems ("Digging the Needle Too Far"). I would say that Nomads, Indians, and Saints, after the album Rites of Passage, does the best in balancing all three elements.

Great upbeat song: "Hammer and a Nail". Sweet, melodic song: "Southland in the Springtime." Overall, this is an *amazing* album. By this point in their career, the Indigo Girls have perfected their characteristic harmonies. They are writing expressive, musically interesting songs. The album also has several guest artists singing backup, including Mary Chapin Carpenter and Michelle Malone.

From the opening note of "Hammer and Nail" to the closing notes of "The Girl With The Weight Of The World In Her Hands" this is Indigo Girls at their finest. Of all their albums, this one is my favorite and constantly makes it back into the CD player rotation. I have the original version so I don't know what difference the bonus tracks would make on the remastered version. Having seen the Indigo Girls live twice now, I feel very priviledged to have experienced them live. This album struck a chord in me and many of my friends the year of it's release. We lived it, loved it, and paid homage to the "Girls" many times. It is hard to have a favorite. The Indigo Girls continue to amaze me with each release. But, I would recommend this one be the first one you add to your collection. "Nomads Indians Saints" is a finely crafted pop/rock/folk collection of art that you can see and feel as well as hear. Each cut paints a lyrical tapestry that makes you feel as if you're there with them as the songs came to them. The harmonies, instrumentation and production on this album are incredible. See, hear, feel, smell, touch, taste, and ENJOY!

I like this..It is so wonderful to hear classic spirit-filled riffs on classic good-sounding acoustic guitars..These songs speak to me, like "Hand Me Downs" talks about how the world should be and talks about the love we have and how we get it..Hey..Friends, dance with me on this.."Hammer and a Nail" is a call to action..And "Watershed" speaks to how to live..Man, I wish I was a hippie chick like this..(See my "RoseMary Curb and Nancy Manahan" review of "Lesbian Nuns"..)"World Falls" asks you to sing along.."Pushing the Needle Too Far" aches with lonliness and Amy Ray is the achey singer.."123" is a hoe down, and "The Girl With the Weight of the World In Her Hands" tells us what we should do..And "Southland In the Springtime" just tells us what we should do AND is pretty..Love, Vanes

One of the first IG albums I bought and I still love it. One of their best!!!

This was my first Indigo Girls album. I had never heard of them until I coincidently turned on my car-radio just as "Hammer and a Nail" had started. I knew at once that there was something special about this band. Later of course, having bought their album "Nomads." I found out that they were actually only a duo.

Though "Hammer and a Nail" was the only obvious up-beat song, I was not as at all disappointed with the album. Judged from this album alone, I was sure that Emily Saliers here. It`s not that Ray`s songs are not good, it`s more that Saliers`are so great. Luckily Ray has grown as a songwriter in recent years so there is a more balance between them today. Her best song here is "Hand Me Downs", which really is great.

It`s hard to pick out one of Emliy`s songs from the others because they`re all great; many of them have become live-favourites.

The blend of their two voices, their brilliant acoustic guitar-playing and their classy songwriting - what more can you wish for.

This was the first Indigo Girls album I bought, though not the remastered version, the original one. I felt like it was the first time somebody was singing about what it's like to live my life. There is a quality of both melancholy and optimism about many of the songs here that almost perfectly captured my emotional state when I bought it.

I had seen the Indigo Girls in concert before I had owned any of their CDs. Bought this one. OMG! This CD is great!!!

The bittersweet harmonies and authenticity of this duo placed them among the foremost singer-songwriters of the early 1990s. Their intelligent lyrics and evocative imagery make every song worthwhile, even when the tune is not particularly catchy. So tracks like Hammer And A Nail and Welcome Me with its spectacular guitar patterns are pleasant enough but somewhat lacking in the melody department. Where the melody is great, they deliver the most exquisite songs like Southland In The Springtime, the poignant You & Me Of The 10 000 Wars, the soulful Pushing The Needle Too Far which reminds me of Marianne Faithfull, and the stirring poetic song The Girl With The Weight Of The World In Her Hands. Another great one is World Falls, a song which in its imagery evokes Jane Siberry's classic Bound By the Beauty. There is a spiritual undertone and a feeling of pastoral purity in the music which is reflected in the environmental concerns of some of the songs. Those who like the music of Lucinda Williams, Suzanne Vega and acoustic folk in general, will love this album.
