Good - But Not Accurate,
By Radar Tech (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Non-Contact Handheld Infrared Thermometer w/LCD Display - Perfect for Checking Temperature of Engine, Tires, PC & More! (Misc.)
This Handheld Infrared Thermometer works OK, but with one limitation - the accuracy is not within its supposed tolerance of (+- 3F) or (2%) reading. My temperature readings on non-metal surfaces were consistantly off (read too high) by (4),(5), or even more degrees (Fahrenheit). On the lower scale towards freezing temperatures, the temperature readings were even worse. All of my test temperature measurements were taken while I was positioned within the best distance-to-spot size ratio and field-of-view. Everything else about the Handheld Infrared Thermometer is good. Perfect weight and the LCD blue backlight display is really nice. The red laser can be turned on or off to further conserve battery life.
After you press the trigger, the device turns on and your temperature readings will show up on the lighted display for as long as you keep your finger on the trigger. After releasing the trigger, (5) seconds later the lighted LCD display will shut off. After 10 seconds if no further trigger action is used, the device will shut off completely. I like the idea that the display stays lit while you are pressing the trigger. This allows you to see multiple temperature readings or variations in low lit or dark areas. Other thoughts: The 9V battery comes already installed (wrapped in cellophane) in the device. Just remember to open up (slide open) the battery compartment and remove the battey cellophane wrapping and re-insert observing proper polarity. Othrwise you will think that the Handheld Thermometer is not functioning when you first get the device and press the trigger. You get what you pay for. For just checking average (ball park) temperatures this would be OK. I wouldn't use it for anything else requiring accuracy. Also remember, when using Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers to measure temperatures on metal surfaces or glass, your readings will turn out to be the most inaccurate. Materials that are highly reflective such as metal or glass will yield innaccurate results. If you do measure temperatures on metal or glass and you require more accuracy, put masking tape on an area, then take your measurements off of the taped area - if temperatures permit (not too high as to burn the tape). Measurements on everything else non-metal or glass should be within an acceptable range. Your device's accuracy may vary (better or worse).

This works great when tempering chocolate, works like the ones sold in the culinary stores, but less than half the price.

Quality, quality & extremely accurate at long distances. You put the laser where you want the temperature taken, & you get a reading instantly. These things can be used in so many ways that you can not be be without one.

I bought this after I saw my AC repairman use a fluke IR thermometer for troubleshooting the bearings in my AC unit. The fluke unit works better than this one. But for the money and hte amount of time I will use it as a homeowner, it's good enough. If I were a professional useing it daily, I'd opt for the Fluke. For the homeowner it works well.

I use this item when I grill, I use it in the winter to check air temperature flowing out of the vents, I also use it to find leaks under my hard wood floor. Also used when driving to determine when my tires get hot when I go on long drives. Mannnnnnnny uses! During winter time, you can tell ground temp, very interesting and fun tool!

I have been wanting a non-contact infrared thermometer for quite some time, but I haven't felt like paying north of eighty bucks to obtain one. Finally! I find one that works well and doesn't cost way more than it should. If you are like me in resisting expensive choices, this is a safe bet for you and I recommend this product whole-heartedly.

This makes it so easy to take the temperature of hot liquids. I make soap and need to be able to take the temperature of different liquids to ensure they are at specific levels before combining them. This device makes it easy and mess-free.

This product was bought for my husband who is a milk hauler. He travels to the farm and loads the raw milk using a pump on his truck. The reason for the purchase was to try to ward off any complications due to chillers not functioning at standard quality. All he does is take a reading on the tank and if the temp is not where it should be, then he knows there is a problem and it needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Thank you Catmoof.

I own and operator my Paranormal Investigator Group. The only thing I do not like about this product is that every time you push and let go of the button its makes a very loud digital double beep. So DO OT USE this if EVP work becuase it wil pick up as even louder on your recordings.
Other then let the laser if very powerful. I can make go a very long distance. The thermal detections are about 3ft away at the most. It has a nice Blue LED backlight that is not overpowering in the dark but clear enough to see. It runs on a 9 volt battery that can last a long time, specialy if you do not use the laser function I woudl recommend this to many people |
