Great Album From A Band Few People Have Heard Of,
By
This review is from: Non Fiction (Audio CD)
There was a rockabilly revival in the late 1970s. Most of the bands involved weren't that good and quickly faded into well deserved obscurity. But a few bands that came out of the 1970s rockabilly revival were really good. The Blasters fit into the latter category.
Unfortunately, the band never really achieved the success its talents deserved. The Blasters released a number of albums and attracted a devoted following, but never cracked into the big time. That doesn't change the fact that this is a damn fine rockabilly and rock n' roll band. This was the album that first put me on to The Blasters back in 1983-84. Late one night I was watching a then new channel called MTV and, blasting out from the 1980s musical rubbish that was so typical of the period, there came a video of a song called Barefoot Rock by an unknown band called The Blasters. I was hooked. I ordered this album from a record store the next day. It took a few weeks to get it but it was worth the wait. I still have my original vinyl copy of this album but this is the first time I've seen a CD version. I have the music from the album on a Blasters Anthology CD. Now, it seems, the Blasters Anthology is no longer in print and CDs of the original Blasters albums are being released on CD. Great album. Great rockabilly and rock n' roll band. If you're not familiar with these guys, check them out.
