4.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes thangs is messed up.......
Check this.....I wanted this cd bad. When I finally got it last Christmas i was sorta disappointed. 4.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes thangs is messed up......., December 12, 2001
This review is from: Non Fiction (Audio CD)
Check this.....I wanted this cd bad. When I finally got it last Christmas i was sorta disappointed. I had particularly liked Mausberg AKA The Realest ( not the fake Tupac impersonator) on his appearances on various albums such as Top Dogg by Snoop, Rhythmalism by Quik and some others. I liked his flow and the way he rapped and his voice was also tight. His style is a cross between Eightball, Scarface, and Styles from The LOX. At first I thought this cd was a bad way for him to go out. The beats weren't so great when I listened to it first either. But slowly as I gave it more spin it grew on me substantially. DJ Quik came through for this man. The beats aren't really his signature beats but he molds his style around the rapper which is a SURE sign of a great producer. Nice laid back tracks is the epitome of the West Coast sound and it is excellently represented here.

Enough about Quik this is Mausberg's cd. While lyrically Mausberg is nothing eyebrow amazing. His style is captivating and his voice is very good. He is a lifestyle/ battle rapper as witnessed by the first song Non- Fiction. Almost all the tracks are bumpable to the fullest. Guests appearances are kept to a minimum which means there is enough Mausberg on here so that it doesnt feel like a compilation. Guests include DJ Quik, Suga Free, James Debarge, Dresta the Gangsta, Playa Hamm, AMG, and 2nd II None.

Sensational songs include Non-Fiction, Get Nekkid, Tha Truth Is, Y2K, Any Way U Want To, Busta, I Can Feel That, Bank On It, Mushrooms, My Life Goes On and We Aint Done Yet( which sports a true chorus; "how can you roll with all that disrespect in California and not get wet?", That is real) Unfortunately that lifestyle claimed this promising rapper's life. It's a shame most folks have never even heard of him or knew he was a rapper that got killed.

I was tempted to give this cd a classic 5 star rating but all in all it is not classic. The lyrical content is sorta lacking. It is still a very well done debut that will sadly be the last from this rapper. I recommend this cd if you like or love DJ Quik or if you are a West Coast fan, because it is sort of an acquired taste. But on the real a fantastic album and you should give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another album with great DJ Quik production!, October 26, 2000

Mausberg, who has been as a guest in a couple of DJ Quik albums before hits us now with his solo album Non Fiction. And why wouldn't he. When over half of the tracks are produced by the one and only DJ Quik, solid beats and groovy tracks are quaranteed. My favorite track has to be Get Nekkid, which has awesome Quik beats and him also guesting. Other guest appearances include James DeBarge, Suga Free, AMG, Playa Hamm and 2nd II None among others. Lyrically the album is mostly gansta. To me, this album reminds a lot of The Konnectid Project, which also features Mausberg and Quik production. Sadly, this will be Mausberg's last album since he got killed earlier this year. So if you're into Quik's producing and would like to get the last glimpse of Mausberg's solid flow, be sure to get this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Debut from the Top Dogg Mausberg -- R.I.P., November 30, 2004
By
This review is from: Non Fiction (Audio CD)
Mr. Mausberg, the 21 year old from Compton, delivered a great debut, a classic backed by DJ quik's prduction (on 10 songs - 5 songs by Sacc's) and cameo's by Quik's crew and a few others. His flow fits great over the super funky beats that he gets laced with. Has 2 songs that I skip but a number of high quality songs and about 4 classic tracks on here as well, this cd is a must have for rap fans, especially fans of the west coast rap.

#1 - 9 (f/ Squeek & Six Million)
#2 - 9
#3 - 9 (f/ Dresta - great beat)
#4 - 10 (classic f/ DJ Quik - great beat - about gettin' hoes naked)
#5 - 10 (another classic f/ DJ Quik - great beat)
#6 - 7
#7 - 9 (f/ Suga Free & James DeBarge - relaxing beat)
#8 - 5.5 (f/ Six Million - my least favorite song on here)
#9 - 10 (classic f/ DJ Quik - great beat -- about how they don't want anymore questions)
#10 - 10 (classic about busta's - great beat again)
#11 - 9 (f/ AMG, Hi-C)
#12 - 9.5 (great song f/ 2nd II None {KK & D} & Playa Hamm)
#13 - 9 (about eating mushrooms - talkbox by Quik)
#14 - 6
#15 - 9.5 (about charging hoes for his d!*k)
#16 - 7 (slower/deeper song)

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Rider Music 4 Ya Ear, December 8, 2005

Mausberg comes nothing short of bumpin' on his only solo album. Unfortunately he did not live to see it be released, being killed in Compton months before its release. Just about all the beats (many courtesy of the funky dope brotha Q.U.I.K) on this album slam. His beats are the ones that remind you of what made you fall in love with that West Coast G-Funk years before! His album is fun, naughty, deep, hard core, and playerish all rolled into one. In fact, this album is one of the best albums to come out of Quik's camp. Excellent production, awesome rhymes from the Realest himself really help put the West back on the map for the new millenium. Most of his guests are from Quik's camp of course: AMG, 220, Quik, Playa Hamm, Suga Free, and so forth. Make sure not to sleep on this classic!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars DJ Quik comes through for Mausberg -- P-Funk from a B-Dog!, December 22, 2001

Man, this is tiight! Mausberg's work on DJ Quik's albums is great but here we have Quik producing beats especially to suit Mausberg's gangsta style and flow ... this isn't just a Quik album with Mausberg rapping over beats Quik would have put on one of his albums. Mausberg gets a style all of his own here. Guest appearances are kept to a minimum so that you can feel young Mr. Mausberg ... Suga Free, Dresta, Sqeek and others make great guest appearances here but it is really Mausberg's album lyrically and musically. I will have to buy the Konnectid Project now, which features Mausberg, Suga Free, Quik, Hi-C, Kam and others ... If you like Quik's production, and you like the ruff style of MC Ren etc then don't hesistate, buy, borrow, or dub this now!
Mausberg is of course resting in peace now so there won't be any new releases, unless Quik has some tapes lying about. The cover art says it all regarding Mausberg's affiliations. It's too bad that the gangsta lifestyle took him out. A great talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars yet another compton talent, December 10, 2001
By
datplaya (The netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Non Fiction (Audio CD)
This cd is my favorite rap album of the year 2001!! I didnt have too many dj quik albums but this cd (along with the konnectid project) is VERY impressive. Quik had some rivalry comming from the compton neighborhood for his happy sounds but after hearing these two cds im thinking: just let tha man do his thing!!
Besides, Mausbergs dominating voice and street related rhymez give the beats a straight gangsta touch. Especially the first two songs are tales from the hardside of life and give some gangstabeats, after those tracks the dj quik production style really starts to kick in. The beats become more "happy" without ever really losing the G-feeling as mausberg keeps reminding you where hes at. Many other rappers from the dj quik crew back mausberg up, especially suga free (appearing on any way u want 2) keeps surprising me with his dope lyrical skills-- be aware off him as hes going to become very hot!! Unfortunately mausberg wont be able to enjoy any more time in the Game as he was taken away by the G-life, becoming a non-fiction story. He leaves us with far too little material to really understand his style, i mean after hearing this you just wanna hear the next series of non fiction stories!!
This album is definetely worth picking up, as a matter of fact its almost a must!! I heard a lot of albums comming out in 2001 but this is without a doubt my number 1 for this year!! If you like the new eastsidaz/bad azz you should definetely pick this up cuz this will leave those albums far behind!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Tha Realest", September 7, 2003
By
This review is from: Non Fiction (Audio CD)
Mausberg's album Non-Fic and Quik's album Balance and Options were the best two albumz on the street in 2000. If Mausberg was still alive he would've brought the West Caost bakk to life kuz rite now we need a hard hitter. All the songz on Mausberg'z Cd were hard as hell "Ring King", "Get Nekkid", "No More Question'z", "Mushroomz",and "Tha Truth Iz" prove my point. Bottom line iz Mausberg iz still "Tha Realest" by far. Everybody needz to rekognize it.
