From the Manufacturer

Roul’Pat pastry mats are made of woven glass coated with food-standard silicone. Used daily by professionals, the sheets are ideal for multipurpose uses such as preparing, cooking, and heating up food. They're easy to clean--simply wipe them off using hot water and dish soap. Store them by either rolling them up or keeping them flat. Do not cut the pastry mats with metal, but with DeMarle Exoglass cutters or knives. Roul'Pat pastry mats stick to your worktop, making them ideal for rolling out any kind of dough. The mats are made in France.

Product Description

Makes rolling out pastry dough easier! This unique mat is composed of fiberglass and coated on both sides with non-stick silicone, allowing for the dough to be rolled out effortlessly. With the Roul'Pat, you can roll, pat, knead, and beat dough, gum paste, fondant, or working with sugar and chocolate. Also great for arts & crafts, gluing, painting, modeling clay, and more! When rolling out dough on the "top surface" of the mat (side with Roul'Pat logo), there is no need to sprinkle the mat or dough itself with flour. The "reverse side" is skid resistant and secures itself to any working surface. The elimination of extra flour has many advantages:The dough is smoother and less dry.The dough is finer looking and retains its glossinessThe workspace is cleanerIt prevents allergies due to flour dustThere is no need to add extra fats to compensate for the flourIt is economicalMeasures 24 1/2" x 16 1/2"**Please remember**Though the Roul'Pat and Silpat look and feel the same, the Roul'Pat should not be used in a conventional oven. It is not designed as a baking mat. It is too large and should never be cut of folded to fit into the oven.

I bake a lot and I highly recommend it.

The tacky surface adheres to the counter without clinging to the dough, making it easier to roll out thin pastry crusts and the like.

The French-made Roul'pat, like its cousin the Silpat, is a flexible silicon mat enclosing a thin, fiberglass mesh for durability. The Roul'pat is designed for creating a non-skid work surface for rolling out and kneading dough. The tacky surface adheres to the counter without clinging to the dough, making it easier to roll out thin pastry crusts and the like. Because the mat is flexible, the transfer of a pie crust to pan is a cinch. Dipped chocolates don't stick, nor does fondant. At sixteen and a half inches by twenty-four, the surface is expansive enough for most recipes. The only drawback to this unusual mat is the inability to cut on it, ruling out anything that requires a cookie cutter or knife. The manufacturer also warns against folding and scraping the surface.

I find the Roul'pat works best on pie crusts, pizza dough, chocolate, and flatbreads (or any bread dough that requires rolling or shaping.) Clean up is simple - wipe with a damp sponge and rinse. Mild soap can be used if needed, although I try to keep the surface detergent free. (The Roul'pat is not dishwasher safe.)

This makes a fantastic gift for cooks who seem to have everything.

Works pretty well on "dry" dough like breads and cinnamon rolls. Moister doughs like pastry still require some flour. Cleans up very easily and doesn't slide around at all unless the counter underneath is wet.

Would have given it four stars if it was about 30% cheaper. If it truly was nonstick with every dough I would have given it five stars even at the current price.

Perfect for baking bread--I never again will need to scrape flour off my wooden table after kneading. I've never used it for pie crusts, since I always use two layers of plastic wrap for that, but I honestly can't imagine that _anything_ would stick to this. My bread dough has gotten much better since I don't need to use so much extra flour when I knead and shape it.

After receiving this product, I used it immediately with some yeast dough, then with some pie crust, and finally with some cookie dough. It worked beautifully. The product is large, so be sure you have enough space on which to lay it. It doesn't slip and clean up is a breeze. I would highly recommend the Roul'Pat.

If you purchase this product you will probably love it but put a layer of paper or cloth on it before rolling it up to store.

I purchased this product because my plastic one slides all over the counter. Using the product itself is great however after being stored rolled up for a long period of time the black border (my border is colored black) stuck to the other areas it touched while rolled up. So now in the middle of the rolling area I have a long black streak of silicone clumps stuck to it and I cannot get it off. I am afraid to use again for fear some pieces of the silicone will break off into the dough. So I have no choice but to throw it away. Thinking about getting another one and then put something on top of it before rolling it like wax paper or a cloth. (And yes, I rolled it up correctly - textured side out according to the instructions.)

Works well for pastries and cookies. No damage from metal cookie cutters but DO NOT cut pastry with a serrated knife.

The maker of this pastry mat claims that one can now roll out pie crust on this may without using flour. Well, I tried that and it doesn't work - the crust sticks, so I have to use flour with it. However, the mat "sticks" to the counter which is very nice. When I have used a pastry cloth it always slides around so it's difficult to roll out the dough. Overall, I don't think it's worth the money.

I used a Roul'Pat once, at someone's house, and bought it immediately. Brilliant and indispensable.

You do need to flour it as you would any other rolling surface. It makes even tricky doughs easy to roll out and to lift away.

Very easy to clean, also.

LOVE my Roul'Pat.
