5.0 out of 5 stars High quality pulse ox meter for the price (or any price)!
I bought the Nonin GO2 for my mom who uses oxygen at night and has had blood oxygen saturation problems lately. Her level is normally 97-98 but sometimes drops to 90. I wanted her to know when it got low. I researched several brands of home meters. Nonin, I learned, makes professional models costing hundreds. But the GO2 uses the same technology in the home use meter. The...

I am a respiratory therapist and I have been using this device for about five months now. It is relatively cheap compared to the Nonin Onyx but as a medical professional I would recommend spending the extra money and having a nicer device. This pulse ox does not read sometimes. (not because of fingernail polish or hypotension/hypothermia; although that messes with the...

The difference is that the GO2 is not "certified" thought technically its just as accurate and reliable as a professional unit. The meter is very easy to use. It automatically turns on when placed on the finger. It takes 5-10 seconds to give O2 level and pulse rate. Then it shuts off automatically once removed. A single AAA battery lasts about 4000 readings. It has a great warranty (2 years) and seems very accurate. Highly recommended product!

I am a respiratory therapist and I have been using this device for about five months now. It is relatively cheap compared to the Nonin Onyx but as a medical professional I would recommend spending the extra money and having a nicer device. This pulse ox does not read sometimes. (not because of fingernail polish or hypotension/hypothermia; although that messes with the reading too like all pulse oximeters) This pulse ox tends to read lower than usual than most other devices. Why? I don't know.

Is it bad? Not entirely, This is probably the ideal device for athletes who want to check their pulse and oxygen saturation.

In other words, it's perfect for those who are completely healthy and normal, It's only $99 and will work great for you.

Is it great? No, I would recommend using a Nonin Onyx if you are buying to use in a hospital or medical setting,

Cough up 200 dollars.

After using this product I came to a conclusion that it really doing its job.

It give very accurate results and is very easy to use.

product main properties:

- Continues measurement (results displayed and updated continuously).

- Automatic ON and OFF (no buttons!!!)

- clearly readable LCD display (with backlight) - Very accurate. results are repeatable - tested on different fingers both hands, on short time period,

resulting difference + or - 1BPM, + or - 1%SPO2 (which is the device resolution, so the actual accuracy maybe even higher).

- Give an indication on measurement quality (pulse strength indication).

- Uses standard AAA battery.

- Battery level indicator.

Highly recommended!!!

We were impressed with this item when the nurses used it at my husband's recent hospital stay. I wrote down the name and model number to check out on Amazon. The one we bought works exactly the same and gives peace of mind when recovering from pneumonia. The price was very reasonable @ $99.00.

Nonin GO2 Achieve Oximeter

My father was recently admitted to the hospital with a pulmonary embolism. His oxygen levels were dangerously low and we knew that when he was released from the hospital he would be on oxygen for a while. I bought this oximeter so that we could easily track his oxygen levels at home.

First, and most important, this oximeter is very accurate. We compared its reading to the large unit they used at the hospital and it was always within 1 point of the hospital's reading. After the hospital, my father was in an nursing facility for a month while his lung healed. The entire time we were able to use our oximeter and again it was always within 1 point of the nursing unit readouts. Now he is at home and we have total confidence in this oximeter.

This device is so easy to use. There is no off/on switch, you simply put it on your finger and it takes a reading in about 5 seconds. When you take it off your finger, it automatically turns off. Although a reading appears quickly, it is best to wait 30-60 seconds to let the reading settle down so it is more accurate.

The oxygen saturation reading is in large digits. Below that is your heart rate, in smaller font size. For those of us who need reading glasses, it would be better if Nonin made the pulse rate the same size as the oxygen reading. :) However, it is very handy that both the saturation and heart rate are available on one screen. I didn't realize it when I was researching oximeters, but it ends up that if you need to track oxygen saturation for medical reasons, you typically also need to track the patient's heart rate. It worked out great that this device has both.

An additional great feature is that the LCD display is backlit. When I was researching oximeters, I didn't really think about a feature such as backlighting. Once we had the device, it was obvious that a backlit screen is a must have. It's impossible to read the LCD in a dimly lit room otherwise.

The unit comes with a standard AAA battery. If you use the device very frequently during the day/night, you will need to replace the battery frequently (more than once a week).

Overall, we are extremely happy with this device. After seeing how well it worked, a friend of the family bought one. That unit reads the same as or within 1 point of our original unit. Good to see that a second unit was as accurate as ours.

We've had our oximeter for about 3 months now and it's still going strong. Very happy with our purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars handy dandy Oximeter, August 13, 2009
This review is from: Nonin GO2 Achieve Fingertip Pulse Oximeter - Blue (Health and Beauty)
I love this...I suffer SVT (very fast heartbeat) and I need to control my pulse often and this is a perfect little gadget thats small enough to carry with you everywhere. I only wish it came with a case, but I bought a lipstick case for it and it fit...now it doesn't get dusty.

It seems to be very accurate which is the best part. So far so good...I've had it for several months already.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate for medical purposes, June 27, 2010

This review is from: Nonin GO2 Achieve Fingertip Pulse Oximeter - Blue (Health and Beauty)
We purchased this device to use on a loved one with pulmonological problems. It gave readings on average five points below hospital equipment. Duration of readings made no difference. There are other devices within $50 that are accurate when compared to industry standard tested and accurized pulse-ox equipment.

We were advised by our pulmonologist and respiratory therapist not to use this device for the patient. We also discovered that this device is not accurate on healthy people either. I average 97% - 98% but get 92% - 93% on this device.

I am currently dealing with the manufacturer trying to get an accurate device. If you have medical reasons for buying one of these, spend a little more for a better device. You don't need to spend $499 for the top of the line device anymore. Look at what RTs and Nurses are using.

I don't believe that any of the 5 star reviewers had the opportunity to compare this device's readings with equipment in an ER or ICU. The ONLY difference should be the time it takes for a good reading, which can take up to four minutes. This device never did that.

It takes a few seconds longer to get an accurate reading from this unit than from the expensive Nonin units, but if you wait the readings are exactly the same.

I bought this for my wife after she got out of the hospital having suffered 2 months in the ICU with acute Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. We had it's readings verified multiple times with the "professional" grade oximeters at the hospital and it was always right on. It allowed us to slowly wean my wife off her oxygen supply safely and carefully through her home rehab. We'll continue to use it now ANY time we have any concern or suspicion about breathing!

What a life saver! My wife doesn't sense well when she's hypoxic. I wish we'd had this before she was admitted so we could have known she was de-saturating so badly!
