Finding the Real Gospel, February 8, 2009
This review is from: The Nonnegotiable Gospel (Paperback)
"The Nonnegotiable Gospel" is typical of Dave Hunt's clear cut, logical and scriptural approach. This is an essay as opposed to his usual fairly in-depth books.
If you want the gospel in a nutshell, this booklet delivers it. It deals with -- as stated on the cover -- the three elements which the Gospel must contain for our ONLY salvation and tells us what points of belief it must NOT contain.
The first part is THE GOSPEL of GOD and it deals with the wonderful benefits of being a believer and the dire results of rejecting the gospel. The second part, MERCY vs WORKS, deals greatly with what faith actually is, and how it is not what is often propagated by many ministries. The third part, THE CALL to DISCIPLESHIP, deals with what a Christian is supposed to do and be; and how he/she receives the strength to do so.
Dave Hunt, and his ministry The Berean Call (www.thebereancall.org), are all about the importance of doctrine. However, he does not push a personal viewpoint. He is a stickler for keeping his eye on the ball scripturally and always points people back to their responsibility in checking the facts for themselves. The Gospel is to free us, not enslave us to denominational dogmas and doctrines.
However, as it states on the back cover, "As this plain-speaking booklet shows, Salvation comes on God's terms and by His grace, and we negotiate the gospel neither with God not with one another... we either believe it or reject it."
Again I will let the booklet speak for itself:
"Most people are surprised to learn that the gospel contains nothing about baptism, church membership or attendance, tithing, sacraments or rituals, diet or clothing. In fact, if we add anything to the gospel, we have perverted it. So whether you are just checking out what the Bible has to say, or whether you've been attending church for years, this booklet cuts through religious confusion. It contains no hidden agenda or clever doctrines of men; instead, it invites the reader into a pure, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, though an unadulterated understanding of God's word."
And it does live up to that claim!
Before you worry about it being a Calvinist threat, I will mention that Dave Hunt is often accused by Calvinists of being anti-Calvinism. (He is not particularly. He merely disagrees with certain of their doctrines, as did Spurgeon whom Calvinists claim was a Calvinist. But all that's the subject of another review.)
I believe all kinds of Christians, Calvinist or otherwise, would enjoy "The Nonnegotiable Gospel" and definitely benefit from reading it. I think ecumenists would benefit from it most but I do not think they would like it.

the gospel of christ, November 20, 2010
This review is from: The Nonnegotiable Gospel (Paperback)
The gospel of christ is the power of god unto salvation to everyone that believes.Jesus himself says we must believe that he is God,for he is; and no one less than God could save us.Forgiveness of sins and eternal life are a free gift for those who accept and believe in jesus as their Lord and Savior. We are hopeless sinners condemned to eternal death, christ died for our sins was buried and rose again to make payment for the penalty for our sins.It was the act of rebellion in the garden of eden by adam and eve against ALMIGHTY GOD that seperated man from his creator.Man`s rebellion against God is most clearly seen in religions all of which are man`s attempts to climb up some other way instead of entering through the door that God has provided in His Son Jesus Christ. The tower of babel may be traced from ancient paganism to the high places "elevated altars" of heathen worship and on to every religion on earth today. All false religions like Islam, hinduism, buddhism and mormonism can be traced to Babylon.Man continues his defiance in his very attempts to be reconciled to God and so persists in his self righteousness and good works to attain salvation. You have to come to God on His terms not on yours. There is no more deadly delusion than scientific religion. It is the delusion of the Tower of Babel that with advancing knowledge will lead man to heaven and open him to the powers of God.Modern man hopes to conquer the atom, space, and all disease and to become the immortal master of the universe. The materialist`s "heaven" is a peaceful cosmos populated by highly advanced ,space traveling civilizations that have restored paradise through supertechnology.
