This book is very thorough but doesn't always present information in a way that is easy to comprehend.

This Nonprofit Handbook is a combination of instruction, history, and fiction. Personally, I wanted just the facts and clear steps that I would need to set up my nonprofit. I don't have the time or desire to wade through historical tidbits of nonprofits, the IRS, etc, or irrelevant stories. Taxes and the IRS are rather boring and dry topics, so I could see why a tax accountant would want to add filler information to break up the book. But for me, the extra content isn't a good thing.
Like another reviewer said, this book is hard to read. It is not that the IRS language is difficult, but rather the way that this author writes is difficult to read. The sentences lack a nice flow and the paragraphs are not focused. I found myself re-reading a few sentences every page to understand what was just said. I've read a half-dozen or so tax books. Personally, I've come to enjoy, appreciate and depend on the books by Nolo Press. No I don't work for Nolo, I've just been very happy with their business start-up guides. I've read the Nolo How to Form a Nonprofit Corporation and Every Nonprofit's Tax Guide: How to Keep Your Tax-Exempt Status & Avoid IRS Problems and will recommend both of these over the Nonprofit Handbook. The Nolo books are better organized, more focused and much better written.

If you are starting a non-profit or involved with an existing one this text is a wonderful resource. I learned so much and the book was worth a million bucks to our non-profit.
