This book has absolutely terrific ideas for how to modify and accommodate an NLD child at school. I have gotten papers from school, that my son did poorly on and then found the answers of how to modify the papers to make them do-able for my son (same work just presented in a way he can understand). Then I would show the teacher the idea(s). I have been doing this all year and have learned the majority of the accomodations and modifications I show the teacher are from this book. The teacher now incorporates these into all of my sons school work. This has decreased his frustration and improved his quality of scool work and learning. Would be a great book for a teacher that has an NLD child in her class.

This book has been a great help for the teachers working with my AS son. It provides a subject by subject blueprint for modifying curriculum that makes it fast and easy for a classroom teacher to accomodate different learners. I've purchased a number of copies of this book because everyone in the teaching profession who sees it wants to borrow it.

A must for parents working through the IEP process for their children--bring it to your meetings and make the team read it.

If you are struggling with how to help your NLD child, then this book will be an excellent resource. The author uses clear, concise illustrations to help the reader understand the disorder and more importantly, what it's like to be a kid with NLD.

Included are some very practical and easy to implement suggestions to help the NLD child with math and writing. We've used a couple of the suggestions and had incredible results. Not only did our son complete the work correctly, but his success with these tools made him realize that he can do the work; he just needs the material presented to him in a way that he can understand. The cost of the book < $30...having your child realize they are capable...PRICELESS!

I am so happy with this book. It totally describes my daughter to a "T" and has been so helpful to me and all of her educators.

I always have it close at hand to refer to when we are struggling with homework or learning something new in school. I have taken all of the ideas on how to teach certain subjects, photocopied them and made a handy desk refrence for all of her teachers.

I also bought one for her school to have.

I wish though, that it had more insight on how to teach multiplication to these kids. This is one area that my 7th grader just can not get a handle on!

This book is great, it is easy to read, and it clearly tells the world that your child or student with NVld can learn everything if it is just taught the best way for them and the disability is all encompassing in their lives not just academically. The social issues are a huge part of it all!

As a school psychologist sometimes I need to have something from what to draw information - I have so much data and need words to define what I see. This book does a wonderful job of summarizing the types of behaviors and concerns that teachers bring to me. Being able to share this resource with them and draw from it as I attempt to assist parents and teachers with a student's learning profile is a joy. Thanks for all of the tremendous effort!

As the mother of a child with NLD, and as someone who thought her first book on NLD was so helpful that I couldn't wait for this one to be published, I am sorry to say that I am disappointed in NONVERBAL LEARNING DISABILITIES AT SCHOOL.
It is not only that I find some of her suggestions for accomodations in schools unrealistic. I do understand we all want a "perfect" situation for our kids. My experience, and the experience of other parents with NLD children as I know them through the NLD on the web site, are no where near perfect. And
I can assure her that it is not from our lack of advocacy for them. I also feel that as a mother of an NLD child, she should know this. However her constant refrain in the book "Remember that although this is considered to be the ideal placement, each steptaken AWAY(her italic)from the ideal will significantly compromise the education of the NLD student", seems more than a little harsh directed at parents who are trying their best to get a FAPE for their children. The system beats Us & our kids up enough, I don't need another parent with a book contract to make me feel like I'm failing because I have to deal in the real world, where everyone knows that the best IEP is fraught with compromise. I also feel that her feelings/relationship with her daughter truley cloud her perception of NLD kids. In reference to her comments on the NLD Student on page 62- no student gives 100% 100% of the time, especially children with this disability,
they just can't, they have too many issues that would get in the way of that. I feel that most of the book is useful, and that it would be better to air her personal feelings in another way, like a memoir of her experience with her daughter instead of clouding issues in a book touted as strategies for other parents.

I am parent of a child that has NLD characteristics AND I am an occupational therapist working with students with special needs in the public schools. This is a great reference book that has excellent explanations and strategies to use. This is a must have reference book for special educators and families who are dealing with NLD type challenges. This book paired with Sue Thompson's The Source for Nonvebal Learning Disorders will provide a solid reference library.

I returned the book. It was designed for the child diagnosed at a young age. We were diagnosed at 15. Found other books that were more helpful (also from Amazon) Nonverbal Learning Disabilities by Marieke Molenaar-Klumper, which is more clinical, but a very good book and Helping a Child with Nonverbal Learning Disorder or Aspergers Disorder by Kathryn Stewart, this one less clinical, and more practical. Talk about the similarities and differences between NLD and AD.

This book is so helpful! I can't believe how much this book described our son. We were able to help ourselves become better, more understanding parents - and we helped the school with ideas to help him there as well.

The methods described in this book really work! Utilizing the author's approach to educating these students, my son was able to improve his academic performance significantly, earning a Presidential Silver Scholar award as a result. At the year-end team meeting, the SPED teacher remarked that these teaching techniques not only benefitted my son--they helped the whole class get a better grasp of the material. Congratulations to Pamela Tanguay for the publication of this long-awaited book. It will help ease the frustration of many students (and teachers).
