3.0 out of 5 stars Fast, fun and frustrating January 23, 2013
By Lylith

Really three and a half stars.

If you have quick hand-eye [or finger-eye, actually] coordination and have a good eye for color, then I think you'll enjoy this game. It's fun and fast. I agree with others that playing in a darker setting is easier and sometimes it's difficult to quickly tell yellow from green. While most people will have no problems with the yellow and green, it is harder for some to tell them apart during such a fast paced game, especially those with certain types of color-blindness.

For me, playing on my RAZR Maxx, it was difficult to clear the screen with the small space and large, fast falling blocks. It might be easier on a tablet. I'll keep playing for a while, as I like this game, to see if I get better.

There are four game-play modes from which to choose: Classic, Arcade, Time and Zen. I prefer Classic and Zen. There are bonuses you can get, such as the one that slows down the falling blocks for a short time. There are also obstacles that will drop, which you need to clear from the screen.

The Help screen easily explains how to play and I love the old-school video game look of the Info screen. There's also a nice screen to show your Achievements. The "Get More" button brings up a list of their other games.

One nice and important thing is that there aren't any unnecessary/invasive permissions. Also, you can turn off sound and music.

This is a good FAOTD and well worth the download.

If the Devs work on better color contrast and maybe slightly smaller blocks, then this would be a four or five star game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yellow Versus Green January 23, 2013
Verified Purchase
I like the game a lot, but, after a few minutes of playing, I have one, just one, complaint: YELLOW vs GREEN.
It's almost impossible to see the difference between the two, especially when they're bouncing around. A basic RGB mixed later with a contrasting OVY would have worked MUCH better. Alas, there is no option for adjusting the colors so there will be no 5th star until this is fixed.

Note to Devs: When seeing colors is crucial, contrast is essential.
Note to players: You can try dimming the screen, but play in a dark room.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just AWESOME! January 23, 2013

I don't write many reviews but this is one fun game! I usually go for word games, but Matchblocks is clever and entirely unique. I downloaded it free, not knowing what to expect and it is addicting! Don't understand complaints about color or speed. I have no trouble whatsoever telling green from yellow and the game is supposed to be fast. It is smart and strategic in ways I didn't expect. I'm very selective about which apps are worth keeping and this is a new favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Fun January 23, 2013
Verified Purchase
Just downloaded Matchblocks a couple hours ago as the faotd and can't stop playing. Quick game play. Fast and fun.

How good is you hand-eye coordination? Do you pay attention to detail? This game starts fast and gets faster. Bricks fall like Tetris. Instead of making shapes fit to make a line disappear, you must match the sting of colours of each falling brick to make each brick disappear. First you only have to match 2 colours. The numbre of colours rapidly increase to 3,4,5,etc. Will you be able to keep up?

If you enjoy Tetris, you'll love Matchblocks, a great twist on a classic game. Try it once and you'll be hooked.

4.0 out of 5 stars cool game January 23, 2013

Cool game but its sorely lacking a colorblind mode. Being colorblind I would seriously appreciate a mode where we had textured blocks instead of colored blocks. Otherwise it is fun and fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simon Says gameplay but more chill. January 22, 2013
By B. Hart

Like Tetris or Bejeweled, you don't want the blocks to reach the top of the screen, but that's where the similarities end. You eliminate blocks by inputting the color pattern on the blocks. Crisp looking graphics and good sound. The last time I got this engrossed in entering patterns was the Simon Says electronic game that quickly became too frantic. Nice FAOTD!

2.0 out of 5 stars Must be fast! January 23, 2013
Verified Purchase
You must be fast, it moves very quickly! Your eyes must be on the blocks as they fall, and your thumbs on the color of the block shown. Tapping it constantly. I gave it 2 stars it moves to fast, the game ends quickly.

As you touch the colors the blocks disappear, then you try it again as more are falling, they don't pop or disappear!

I thought it would be like tetris, clearly it is not. Try it out for yourself, you may like it more than me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but with problems. January 23, 2013
By MB

This is a very fast paced matching game, which is probably more fun than it sounds like. T
It runs perfectly fine on my Galaxy Rugby Pro, and has several play modes.
I have two main problems with this game: as many other reviewers have mentioned, there is a lack of contrast between green and yellow. It isn't game-breaking at first, but as things get more chaotic, the fractions of a second of hesitation between color choices add up fast.
Second, even with only one or two pieces on screen, you can suddenly lose if an incoming piece bounces back out of the play area and meets another incoming block. This is needlessly frustrating and the player can do little to nothing to stop it. If these two issues were addressed, this would easily be a four star little game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible
The game is based on speed recognition, but then uses colors that you can't easily tell apart. It was just uninteresting to me.

1.0 out of 5 stars A reaction game, not a puzzle game
Your goal in this game is just to poke the color controls in the order those colors appear on the blocks that start to fill the screen. Totally boring, totally not a puzzle game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ooh, classy tetris.
New spin on block-busting fun. The soundtrack is really pleasant and it's a good way to waste some time. The different modes are appealing as well.
