Product Description

Use your finger as a pickaxe, dig tunnels and guide the Micro Miners to the Gold, Silver and Coal deposits. Where's my lemmings?

Microminers is an arcade-puzzler which revolves around the control of a vast horde of tiny miners. The screen is constantly scrolling downward, and it’s your job to collect all the available deposits of gold, silver, and coal that you see. Any missed resource represents a strike, and the level is considered failed if you miss three chances to collect. Further adding to the chaos is the fact that any miner left behind is lost indefinitely to the black nothingness beyond the screen.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware February 10, 2014
Verified Purchase
This GAME starts when you turn on your phone or tablet, which means it is running in the background at all times.

It contains the Chartboost advertising module, and has Flurry Analytics and MixPanel analytics.

Of course, it also has internet access, which means it can transmit data as long as your device is running.

Do I even need to mention the In-App Purchasing?

Noodlecake has some excellent apps. Two notable greats on the FAotD have been Trainyard and Huebrix. Both are worthy of purchase (or were, at the time of their respective FAotD appearances.) On the other hand, there have been apps which caused great concern. [EDIT: It appears that Noodlecake may have addressed those issues. If they have, then there's hope for this app, too.]

It's not worth 99-cents to have a game run in the background all the time, gathering who-knows-what information and transmitting data back and forth from and to your device and the developer's servers. IF the game didn't start up, then it would be less of an issue. It may, or may not, have ads in it. I didn't give it internet access to find out. Uninstalled.

App requires suspicious permissions to run. Collects device usage information and other adware and Spyware. Wouldn't suggest keeping it very long.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fun game that has some strange permissions! February 10, 2014
Verified Purchase
I have played many levels of this game and it is fun and it gets progressively harder. I have scanned the software with multiple malware, ad ware and virus software and so far it has not tripped one alarm. I have found no In App Purchases or ads but it did ask me to review the app about 5 levels into the game.

The scary part of the app is the permissions and embedded code, as pointed out by others, that can be malicious. One example is that the app has permission to automatically launch at start up but it doesn't. I have checked using the operating system, malware and virus software many times and it is not running. So what is the permission for? What is starting up?

Sadly this is a 4 to 4.5 star fun game with suspicious permissions and code that make it a 1 star game. If the developer would just remove parts of the code and/or explain why it is in the app they would have gotten a lot better scores on this app.
Game play:
Small miners appear on the screen and they love to dig silver and gold. They run and move like army ants. When you guide your finger on the screen it tunnels through the earth and guides the miners to the ore. The screen is slowly rolling down and do not let your miners move off the top of the screen as they then die. You can move the screen with two fingers without digging.

Soon you will get both black and white miners. The black miners can dig gold and coal but not silver. The white miners can dig gold and silver but not coal. You also have to keep the black miners separate from the white miners because if they combine you cannot selectively mine the different ore without killing one type of miner or the other. Remember silver is poisonous to the black miners and coal is poisonous to white miners.

2.0 out of 5 stars looks fun February 10, 2014

Started to install it, until it wanted to run at startup.

I'm not overly paranoid about permissions, but there is no good reason for a game to start at startup. You start when I tell you to, not when I turn on my device.

Dev: update why you need to have this running 24/7 and ill change my review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Addictive for Some February 10, 2014

Create paths for your little miners and get them to the ores. The screen will slowly scroll down, and they have to mine all the ores for a level; if you miss, or not extract enough from, more than 3 ores, you fail. If any of your miners get caught at the top as the screen scrolls up, you lose those miners too which is not a good thing as less miners means each subsequent ore will take more time to mine.

The only similarity with the old favourite The Lemmings is that you have a bunch of these miners wandering about with no sense of direction, and you decide where they'll go. There the similarity ends.

Regarding the game itself: The graphics are simple and crude, the sound nothing to rave about also. I don't like that sometimes when you have finished with an ore, the screen doesn't scoll down fast enough to see what other ores are below you, and you can't speed it up. Yes you can scroll the screen with two fingers but it will only let you see more of but not the whole picture. Also, some of the ores covered by impregnable stones seem hard to get to or extract fully, although perhaps I just need more practice. There is a "Swearing" option which by default is turned off, and people who might like to pepper their games with more "colourful language" might elect to turn it on. Although I don't think this is a must have game that would appeal to the majority, I recognize that its simple gameplay & control would make it quite addictive for some (as with Flappy Bird which I abhor but it's very popular for others), so I would give it a 4 star rating.

That being said, the game comes bundled with Chartboost & Flurry, it requires network access and wants to load part of itself into memory as soon as your device is started up.
