If an app has the words "Ad-Free" in its title, I expect it to be...well...free of ad networks! The developer of this app doesn't see it that way, and has included not one but TWO ad networks in this app. Namely, Charboost and Tapjoy networks.
Oh...and Flurry analytics.
AND In-app purchasing...in a paid app!
Then every once in a while you get a popup that has some information about the game, or something to buy, or to like them on FaceBook and get your 50 free Golf "bux." Maybe it's just me...but when I'm playing a game and something pops up and forces me to stop playing and deal with the popup, it takes me right out of any fun I was having. I don't remember the fun I was having before nearly as much as I remember, "grumble grumble grumble stupid popup grumble click the X grumble..." :-)

The physics is a bit dubious (and I'm a physicist, so I noticed this right away). Specifically, the range (horizontal distance travelled by the ball) doesn't change enough with the change in launch angle. As you change the angle from 45 degrees, each step makes a small change in the range until you get to vertical and then there's a HUGE change.

There is a practice tee...but no tutorial (at least none that I could find). I went to the practice tee and just started pushing buttons to figure out what did what.

Overall, because of the ad networks, analytics, and IAPs...this is not an app you should have on your phone or tablet. The questionable physics and lack of tutorial just adds to that recommendation.

Picked this up after seeing it listed in IGN's top 10 android games of all time (number 4). Was suprised to see just two reviews for it prior to mine on Amazon here, but figured maybe it just made the app store. I have it installed on the Kindle Fire. Visually it looks good. There are a lot of achievements and a good course selection. The power up balls make it very interesting. As far as the basic gameplay, it is simple to pick up. I was playing it with-in minutes and although they provide practice holes, it was easy to go straight to the course. It is one of those simple physics games where your aim and control of the powermeter is important. The ball will then fly in the air as directed and will further interact with your enviroment once it lands. The first course starts simply and you can easily get a hole in one once you figure out the mechanics. The difficulty slowly ramps up from there, sucking you into the game play. Courses will temp you to take extreme short cuts (high risks)or play it safe. The powerballs really make a difference and since you are only allowed a set number per course, overall strategy comes into play. Lots of choices and for its low price is an outstanding and addictive game.

I read other reviews stating that this game is free on the Google Play Store, so I decided to check it out. I thought this was going to be one of those "free ads version vs. pay ad-free version" things that confuse so many people. However, this is not the case. The version on Google Play Store is free and without the ads, except for one "try one of our other games" splash screen that pops-up at startup--if that's what makes it free, then wow--that's one expensive splash screen.

Another difference I noticed with the Google Play Store 2.0 version of this game is that it has OpenFeint. I only bring this up as information of possible things to come--I'm not saying that the later version (2.0) of this app will have OpenFeint when it gets here to the Amazon Appstore updating this 1.8 version. One thing though--if Openfeint is in the future for this app at least it's disabled by default. You have the choice and have to hit the OpenFeint icon to activate it. But again, since this appears to be in a later version (not yet at Amazon) there is no need to deal with this issue at this time.

There are three course levels (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced)--I tried a little of each and found them all pretty fun. They all have different themes and you unlock the next new course (and theme) as you complete the previous course.

As in all golf games, there are hazards that add strokes to your score, but there are also anti-hazards scattered around that remove strokes as well (of course, these are harder to get)--it's an interesting twist.

There are "powerups" (7 special types of balls) you can use to help make a tough course easier. You can play up to 7 powerups per round.

Super Stickman Golf is a simple, intuitive game where like all golf games, you try to overcome obstacles to hit your golf ball into the green. It doesn't mean that once you're at the green that you are safe and clear. I often time miss a few by striking the ball too hard. Hopefully, you are better than I am. It's a fun game, however I don't find it addictive. Within the game, you can adjust your stroke angle and force. You are also able to scroll around when the map is too large for the screen.

Please be aware that there are some in-app purchase available in the form of Golf Bux. It ranges from $1.49 for 50 to $39.99 for 5000. I usually have a distaste for app that requires in-app purchase to open up another part of the game. For this particular app, there are 5 bonus courses that need to be open with 100 Golf Bux. Being that the app is a premium app, it should have came with all the courses open.

Yet, I do not have anything against in-app purchase for power-up/upgrade to speed up the process. If a player chooses to buy in-app items to help them pass a level, that's their own choice. The developer did developed an alternative way for you to unlock the extra by achieving “Achievements". The reward for each achievement ranges from 10-50 Golf Bux. You can also like the game on Facebook to get another 50. So it really comes to your time vs your money when it comes to in-app purchases.
