4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Abbot / Costello Movie
This was a solid A&C film, the plot dealing with $50,000 stolen by some bad guys. A post-WWII comedy, when the nation was in the mood for light-hearted, non-heavy entertainment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why buy a DVD-R of this title?
I love Abbott and Costello, and this is a film that you will certainly enjoy. However, I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy a DVD-R of this title when a factory pressed version from MGM is still available from amazon.com for approximately one third the price? I could see if the film were out of print, but it's not.

Pass on this version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad offering from the boys, April 2, 2007

I was quite pleased with this A & C comedy. Made by Eagle Lion Films (which went belly-up years ago) but now distributed under the MGM banner, it's one of the handful of movies done outside their home studio of Universal.
I am happy to say that the boys are in top form here. As usual, Bud & Lou do variations on old routines, but the selection is hilarious: The "Mudder & Fodder" bit, the "Mustard" bit, and the "Dress/Undress" bits are performed with panache by sharp-tongued Bud and bewildered, baby-faced Lou. This all rests on the plot foundation of mistaken identity as the boys accidentally mis-deliver a large sum of money which gets them in deep trouble with a gangster (hence the title). And so, it's a race against time as the boys try to beat a 36-hour deadline to recover the dough, with mishaps aplenty.
Perhaps not THE boys' best film, but it's slick & funny enough to keep you laughing all the way through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent A@C Entry, January 31, 2009

This film is a real quality production and one of Bud and Lou's best. Although it was an Eagle-Lion film (a studio of some good quality films, and which folded in the 1950s I believe), it has a polished look that could easily fool someone into thinking it was a Universal release. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Side splitting humor, March 8, 2000

I laughed so hard just watching my younger brother laugh it was great. This was the scene where Abbott kept telling Costello to put on his pants to an immediate take them off. This went on for several minutes. Great team humor. It does not exist any more. One of the boys better films.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harmless, forgotten entry by legendary Comedy Team., February 16, 2009

This was one of the few Abbott and Costello films I had never seen, the reason being that this was an independant that was unavaiable for a good many years.
The film was released in 1949,after there triumph in there best film,Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein(1948).
It's not one of there best, but is a pleasant enough film in the team's time of decline.

In the film,Abbott and Costello play two window washers who get mixed up with some gangsters after accidently mailing there money away in the hands of a beautiful woman. Now the boys must redeem the money and protect there own necks from the gangsters.

Very enjoyable with many great slapstick moments and a memorable comic performance by veteran comic,Leon Errol who has some great scenes with Costello.

Fans of the team will not want to pass this one up.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF ABBOTT & COSTELLO'S BEST FILMS, October 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Noose Hangs High [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Charles Barton does fine job directing this classic A & C film. The plot is very simple. Mistaken identity leads to complications with the boys getting robbed of a large sum of money. This film teams the duo with another popular film comedian at the time - Leon Errol. He plays the role of J.C. (Julius Ceasar) McBride, a compulsive gambler who NEVER loses. The BEST highlight of the film has Errol filling in for Abbott as he and Costello perform the classic A & C routine "MUDDER AND FODDER". Again 5 STARS to Bud and Lou for keeping generations and generations of fans laughing all these years.

4.0 out of 5 stars A PLEASANT COMEDY, January 15, 2007
This review is from: The Noose Hangs High (DVD)
"THE NOOSE HANGS HIGH",MAY NOT BE ABBOTT & COSTELLO'S BEST WORK,BUT IT IS
FAR FROM BEING THEIR WORST.IT KIND OF REMINDED ME OF LAUREL & HARDY'S FILM
"OUR RELATIONS".IT HAD A LOT OF COMICAL MISHAPS,CONFUSION AND MIXUPS THAT
KEEP THIS MOVIE MOVING AT A STEADY BUT FRANTIC PACE.THE ONLY MISSING IN-
GREDIANT IN MY OPION IS THAT BUD & LOU DON'T HAVE A SET OF TWINS TOO HELP
RELIEVE SOME OF THE TROUBLES THAT FALL ON THEM.HILARIOUS IS THE "MUDDER AND FODDER"ROUTINE PERFORMED BY LEON ERROL AND LOU COSTELLO, IT IS A-
PRICELESS MOMENT.NOT TO SAY THAT THIS PICTURE AS A WHOLE ISN'T WITHOUT
SOME MINOR FLAWS.THE FILM DOESN'T HIDE IT'S STUDIO MAKING SUROUNDINGS,IT
ALMOST COMES ACROSS AS AN EARLY TELEVISION SITCOM,WHERE IT IS OBVIOUS THAT
THE ACTORS ARE PERFORMING ON A STAGESET.

4.0 out of 5 stars Minor Comedy With A&C Touches, September 4, 2011
This review is from: The Noose Hangs High (DVD)
Abbott and Costello started out with vaudeville rloutines, perhaps their most famous being "Who's On First," routine. This film starts with a couple of workers getting involved innocently in a misdirected payoff on a gambling bet. This drags both men into a search for the misdirected cash, before unpleasant things happen from some mobster types.
One routine concerns racehorses, where Abbott tells Costello of one horse that, "Her's a mudder."

You might be disappointed in the gags, which are all rehashed from earlier films. Other than that, Bud & Lou are always great.
