With a flavor that harkens back to the '30s or '40s, Grenadine did an excellent job of blending retro sound with modern attitudes on their debut disc, "Goya." The follow-up, "Nopalitos," is another rousing success. Made up of Jenny Toomey (Tsunami), Mark Robinson (Unrest and Air Miami), and Rob Christiansen (The Eggs), Grenadine takes the D.C. indie sound to new levels of enjoyment. Vocals swing between Toomey and Robinson in a style that is lively and enjoyable.
If you like Squirrel Nut Zippers or Combustible Edison (or you wish either of those bands had a little more edge), then give "Nopalitos" a try.
