Diana Palmer at her Historical best!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Nora (Mass Market Paperback)
Calloway is just like you imagine a cowboy from that era to be. Especially liked the link with her previous historical novel Amelia. Also we get a brief mention of Jared Dunn who has his own story in Noelle

Let me begin with my positive comments on "Nora."
This was my first Diana Palmer novel, and without a doubt, it has been one of the three books I own that I was unable to put down. I felt like I really understood her characters, their personalities, and felt the raw emotion each character experienced. The story line was fantastic and I felt her knowledge of the Industrial Revolution and turn of the century attire was done well. Now for my negative comments. I found it hard to relate to Nora in the after math of her fights with Cal. How Diana wrote their conflicts left me literally crying because I was so hurt by Cal's comments. Now, don't get me wrong, having a reader literally cry because your writing is so good, that is a pure sign of a best selling author. However, I felt there should have been more dialogue of apology rather than quick to the bedroom sex. I found once Cal and Nora fought and she lost her baby, I couldn't relate to the story anymore because I couldnt forgive Cal for all the hurtful, cruel things he said to Nora. I felt Diana should have spent more time writing an apologetic or morseful Cal so that the reader could fall in love with him again. It was almost abusive in my opinion and it really turned me off completely. I would possibly read another Diana Palmer just because the story was so well written, and this was my first Diana Palmer novel, I just hope the discourse between the two in love is not so cruel.

It was a really great Diana Palmer read. I am a huge D P fan. It doesn't take me long to read her books. This one took me 2-3 hours. Not solid though. I did other things while reading the book like cooking and cleaning. Whoo, there were moments I would have slapped Cal upside the head for his treatment of Nora. Just because she was an easterner and didn't know better. He made it up to her in the end like always. I think we all can relate to characters like Nora. Brought up a certain way to avoid a certain kind of people. Anyways, loved the book.

I wasn't a fan of Cal...most of the time I thought he was an arrogant jerk! I liked the beginning and end of the story, but not the middle. I got so mad a Cal I didn't want to finish reading it. Although, in defense of Palmer, I do think the story was realistic in regards to the characters' actions. Many people jump to conclusions and misinterpret things causing hurt feelings and anger. However, if I am reading a story, I don't really want the realistic, I want the fairytale where the hero sweeps me off my feet.

I enjoy romance novels and lately have been looking to read historical romances. This was one I read and enjoyed. I like the Old West anyway, and add a bit of drama and romance and its a great read. I like most of Diana Palmer books, and have read several. I am a sucker for 'happy endings' and pretty much won't read a book that ends in tragedy or the bad guys winning, so I like Diana Palmer and will look for more of her published works. Enjoy!

A good beginning of the story,

I don't appreciate the hero of the story, Cal who appears to be so self-centered and has given so much sufferings to Nora who, in my opinion, doesn't deserve all of these. I has the perception that the author always tends to depict her characters into two forms: for man, they are aggressive, ruthless and sometimes very rude; for woman, they are naive, innocent and lovely. Very feminine. I would like to see more changes in the development of her characters which are closer to people we see in our real life and inborn with some of the virtue we admire. However, her another story "hunter" is fascinating. The struggle and passion of the two characters are strongly felt and are vividly described. It has become one of my favorites.
