What a ride it s been for Norah Jones since that night in March 2002, when I first heard her rich, seductive tones as she performed in a cramped room above an Indian restaurant in downtown Austin at a South by Southwest showcase. A few months later she recorded her first Austin City Limits. Now, after five years, many millions of CD s sold, a shelf full of Grammy Awards, and worldwide acclaim, Norah returns to ACL as one of the most successful and respected recording artists of the decade. This performance from June 14, 2007, includes some of those now-classics that captivated an audience longing for heartfelt music. It also highlights her growth as a serious songwriter on her third CD, Not Too Late. These new songs are more honest, closer to my gut, she says. This record is much more personal....I like writing songs that are not so cut-and-dried, songs with a twist to them.

One thing that hasn t changed is her passion for all kinds of musical styles, which probably has a lot to do with growing up in Texas and now living in the heart of New York City. Touches of smoky jazz, country twang, Memphis soul and old-fashioned Tin Pan Alley permeate her original songs as well as her choice of other songwriters material.

Watching her on the ACL stage is the next best thing to having her sitting at a piano in your living room. She and her longtime band mates slide into a groove as cozy as an old pair of slippers. They venture into some new musical territory, but at the center of it all is that voice, that voice that has touched millions around the world. As Time Magazine put it, she may just prove to be the most natural singer of her generation.

Customer Reviews

A beautiful and wonderful talent.
Paul Webber
Having never seen Norah Jones live in concert, watching this DVD in surround was the next best thing.
Vintrick
It's a great DVD with great video/audio, but feels more tame than his live shows.

I bought this DVD about two weeks ago and am watching it for the fourth time. I must say that I knew of Norah Jones, but wouldn't have considered myself an avid fan, that is about to change.

Watching Norah and her Handsome Band perform her many sultry songs is just such a treat. I very much enjoy the unusual percussion instruments, Norah's laid back style and humility, not to mention the well above average talents of each band member.

I was surprised that another reviewer stated that she appeared to have taken on the style of a Diva and had lost her humility, I just didn't have that impression at all after watching this DVD four times. She gives credit to each band member, mentioning all names and doesn't try to over-shadow anyone of them.

I would characterize Nora's vocal style as a triple threat melding jazz, blues, and country-folk. Her playlist is well-rounded and I think most people would enjoy at least 90% of the songs on this DVD.

This DVD is a must own for anyone who truly enjoys female vocalists. I was also surprised to see that Norah performs many songs away from the piano playing electric and acoustic guitar.

Buy this DVD, you will be glad you did!

Norah recorded this impressive live performance on June 2007; this touching and seductive appearance reaches its highest point while playing guitar on "Come Away With Me" and piano on "Don't Know Why." Some previous unreleased songs gave this concert a "special touch". She is definitely one of the current best female jazz-blues performers. (Dedicated to you B)

This is a great DVD. It's a great DVD with great video/audio, but feels more tame than his live shows. At the live shows, he and the band play with the songs and make them sound a lot different than the studio versions. While there is some variation from the studio tracks, it's definitely more in line with his studio albums. If you're new to Amos Lee, I 3000% recommend this DVD. If you've been to a live show, you might be a little let down by how much more tame this show is, but it's still a great show.

Audio, and video looks and sounds more like a blu-ray. Fantastic! I picked this up yesterday at the big discount store for $7 and was not expecting this quality. What a concert!!!!!

Although Norah and the Handsome band do not appear to be having much fun on stage, the musical arrangements and versions of her songs on this album are top drawer. This makes owning this disc a must for any Norah Jones fan. Five stars. Unfortunately, I have to agree with others that were critical of the recording/mastering of this disc. You don't have to be an audiophile to be irritated by the bombastically over-emphasized muddy and distorted bass (I'm dumbfounded how this was approved for production). The other portions of the recording are not as clean and clear as her other recordings nor as well presented as some other concert discs, but not nearly as offensive as the bass notes. The bass makes the disc difficult to listen to. Sound Quality: One Star. It's really unfortunate, as this could have been a very special disc. Funny thing is when I recorded this concert from PBS-HD, it did not have any of these sound issues and the video had a bit more enticing edit and was of course in high definition. I'm thinking the folks at New*West may have messed up a real gem. I'm hoping one day we will get a Blu-ray high-definition version with a clean soundtrack.

What can be said about Norah Jones that isn't positive? Her voice, her lyrics, her delivery, her music - all first class.

Good image and sound quality
18 songs, some are already present in her other DVDs but they made a good job in re-creating them, and for the new ones, they keep up the level.

In all, excellent value for the money.
